Shatner has been doing it for decades. He is a shameless self-promoter and will be the first to tell you so.
There is a self-effacing quality to his commercials, like the whole thing is one big wink at the camera, that really works.

Shatner told a story once about how back in the late 1990's this obscure little internet starup company approached him about doing commercials, but said they had no cash and could only pay him in stock. He said, "Why not?" and did the commercials, that company was priceline.com and in the early 2000's their stock shot over 50 times what it was worth when Shatner received it. At one time, on paper at least it was worth close to $350 million. Unfortunately Shatner said he held it too long and sold it after the value had dropped considerably, but he still ended up making more than he made from every single Star Trek movie and TV show he ever did.
He and Clint. Life is just too good to be ended prematurely.
Shatner’s made more money from Priceline than from Star Trek.
Love. Shatner.
Dont kid yourself there is a boat load of money to be made, look it up, from the progressive girl to the Toyota girl
