The staggering imbalance between Texas’ energy supply and demand also caused prices to skyrocket from roughly $20 per megawatt hour to $9,000 per megawatt hour in the state’s freewheeling wholesale power market.
That raised questions whether some power generators who buy in the wholesale market may have had a profit motive to avoid buying more natural gas and simply shut down instead.

It would have had to be delivered by air. Our grocery stores couldn’t get deliveries. I went a couple days ago and there was no food except a few snack and frozen food.
Hope HEB got a delivery today.

I just called TXU about my utility rate plan, guess where the person I talked to was? In the Philippines.
She told me that my rates would not be affected by it. I had her check my 95 year old father’s too.
This is the most outrageous thing I have ever heard of too. I wonder if that is how they decided who to drop power from when they did the shutdown. I feel the lightening bolt building, this will fry someone for allowing this insanity.

I’ve read of Brits having to shop their utility providers (gas, electric, etc.-not sure about water) but over in my neck of the woods, the only shopping around we can do is for internet, cell phone and cable!

I can only imagine what a mess the grocery stores are in. In the areas power went out, they’ve had to toss all the refrigerated and frozen items they may have had. Same thing happened when our area’s power went out due to the tornado last year. And getting restocked quickly may be dicey, what with some roads still having snow/ice on them at the moment. I know that’ll be gone in a few days down there, but hauling something from California or Kansas to Texas might be problematic.

We were fortunate to have not lost power until the very end, and, for having a top-notch generator that (thank you, Lord) just kept cranking and humming.....and, to have been fully stocked up and on a water well.
Kids lost power and water.
They had the house/pipes prepared, and headed this way.
They’re now on a boil water status :-(
