I just hope that Sydney and Wood don’t let them back down at this point. Could really be a thing of beauty to watch this play out.
Powell and Wood should counter sue for 1.2b to insure that discovery WILL take place.
Discovery isn't the magic process some here imagine. Powell is being sued for specific statements she made publicly. If those statements are false, and the Judge determines Dominion was injured, Powell will pay damages. No Judge is going to order discovery of information not directly related to the alleged defamation. Powell claimed repeatedly that she had direct evidence that proved her claims of Dominion's Venezuelan origin, bribery of GA election officials and election rigging. She is going to have to produce that evidence.
So, no, I don't see Dominion backing down. While Wood might be a good defamation lawyer, I would also say he's damaged goods. The DC jury will probably be extremely biased against him. Judge Nichols could be a wild card, as he is a Trump appointed Republican that was strongly opposed by the dems, and dismissed a NY case against Trump that sought his tax records.
