‘Frasier’ Revival With Kelsey Grammer Set at Paramount Plus
Variety ^ | Feb 24, 2021 | Joe Otterson

Posted on 02/24/2021 3:38:24 PM PST by nickcarraway

The “Frasier” revival has officially been ordered at Paramount Plus.

Original series star Kelsey Grammer will return in the title role in addition to executive producing. Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli will serve as writers and executive producers, with Grammnet Productions’ Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon also executive producing. The series will be produced by CBS Studios in association with Grammnet Productions, exclusively for Paramount+. The announcement was made as part of ViacomCBS’ investor day presentation on Wednesday.

“Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” said Grammer. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

Grammer played the role of Dr. Frasier Crane in three different television series – “Cheers,” “Wings” and “Frasier” – tying the record for longest-running television character. He has won six Emmys, three Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Tony Award during his career. In total, he has received 18 Emmy nominations, eight Golden Globe nominations, 16 Screen Actors Guild nominations and two Tony nominations. He is also currently set to star in a multi-cam comedy at ABC opposite Alec Baldwin.

He is repped by UTA and Vault Entertainment.

“’Frasier’ is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling,” said David Stapf, president of CBS Studios. “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can’t wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount +.”

Grammer has been trying to get the revived show off the ground for some time. “Frasier” remains one of the most successful sitcoms of all time, having won 37 Emmy Awards over the course of its 11 seasons and 264 episodes on NBC. The series also starred David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin, none of whom are currently attached to the revival.

Jane Leeves is gay?!

Speaking of Jane, she made a few appearances on The Benny Hill Show, pre-Frasier

That’s not correct. The girl on the plane was just a seat mate. He was pursuing his matchmaker lady.

Cam Winston ( Frasier’s black alter ego) was in 3 episodes (seemed like many more) in 2002. Poignant episode after 9/11 and the death of David Angell and his wife Lynn on American Airlines Flight 11.
There was also a Dr Mary, who was in 2 episodes in 2000. Ironically enough, it was about race relations. Cute and well handled.

I never liked British type shows until I started watching Midsomer Murders.

If they aren't on brit box, every episode is on youtube and have zero commercials!

Some might have a 5 sec ad in the beginning but that's it and not all of them have even that.

I'm talking about the free youtube .. not the paid youtube site.

He pours his life out to the lady on the plane, but at the end you hear the announcement that the plane has landed in Chicago, not San Francisco, which is where Charlotte (Laura) has moved to. He then says to the lady on the plane,”wish me luck.” He was going to show up at Charlotte’s and get the biggest hug ever or have the door slammed in his face!

Like this one from the Saw Yuck Times? Not mentioned at all. I am not saying you are wrong but I do not find the mention and he never to my knowing claimed to be a homosexual.

Frasier was on Wings?

He and his stoic wife flew to Nantucket to host a motivational seminar or something. Frasier blundered his presentation and Crystal, Tim, and Steve end up hijacking it and air their dirty laundry "Jerry Springer" fashion.

There was one show where retired cop Dad’s old African-American partner was in the hospital. They had been estranged for yeares, but patched things up.

Yes Frasier’s nemesis, Cam Winstead, lived upstairs. He was the black version of Frasier, pompous and pretentious. Cam’s mom and Frasier’s dad pretended they were having an affair just to watch their sons have a meltdown.
My favorite episode is when Niles and Frasier had to learn how to ride a bicycle, because they never learned as kids.

“Can they not come up with something new?”

Always my first reaction when I see a re-make of ANYTHING.

Remember how gawd-AWFUL the re-boot of Murphy Brown was? What a disaster!

Do these TV stars REALLY need more money? Has there been a letter-writing campaign to bring this show back?

Why can’t anyone just let sleeping dogs lie?

The writing was great, more like an English show where you need to think.
