They are actually good animals. They eat ticks, they are natures cleanup crew, they aren’t aggressive, and they don’t carry rabies.

They do stink, depending on what they have been eating. They will get in a chicken house sometimes and eat eggs.

Good to know they eat ticks!

Many years ago, I had two cats and knew they were both outside. Suddenly, I heard something munching down on the dry cat food in the kitchen. I looked up and a possum was sitting there like he was supposed to be there eating the cat food. (It was an old house, and we found where the possum entered and fixed it.)

I'd actually never seen a possum "play possum" until a few years ago. They come up on the porch every once in a while where I live now. There's a table on the porch, right up next to the house and under a window. One night, I went outside and a possum was on the table. I shooed it and waved my hands at it, trying to make it get down and go on. But possums don't scared easily and don't move fast no matter what you do. I went on and did whatever I came out to do, and when I checked to see if the possum had moved on, it was laid out on its side, right up against the window, with its mouth open and tongue sticking out! All I could do was laugh and go back in the house.
