In my view causing suffering to any living being is not a good thing if it can be avoided. Wait ... being eaten by a cat doesn't count as suffering? It's OK if you hire someone to do the dirty work? ;-)

When my kids were still at home, we were all sitting in the family room when the cat brought in a mouse. The mouse wasn’t dead, and managed to escape. He ran down the hallway with the cat in hot pursuit. I jumped up, yelled “ save the mouse!” And got the cat. My kids all made fun of me bigtime.
