Gavin Newsom Says Recall Frontrunner Larry Elder Doesn't 'Believe in' Minimum Wage (And what's the bad part?)

Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom is doing his best to make sure voters are aware that Larry Elder, his chief Republican opponent in the recall election, "does not believe in a minimum wage."

During a Friday press briefing in San Bernardino, Newsom slammed Elder, a veteran conservative talk radio host who has been at or near the top of recent polls as a Newsom replacement, for telling The Sacramento Bee on Tuesday that his "ideal" minimum wage would be "zero." Newsom did not name Elder but noted that he had been endorsed by former President Donald Trump's ex-adviser Rudy Giuliani before listing a series of attributes that are unlikely to be popular in heavily-Democratic California.

"Rudy Giuliani [is] supporting a candidate who believes the minimum wage should be zero," Newsom said. "[Elder] believes that women do not have the right to choose and wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade... believes we need more offshore oil drilling and fracking in the state of California... believes in not only Trump, but Trumpism. And thinks that Trump has been unfairly burdened with responsibility for the occurrences on January 6."

"a candidate who believes the minimum wage should be zero," Newsom said.

The minimum wage should IS zero. That's what Democrats just don't get.

I don’t know if any more candidate debates are scheduled. There was one recently, but neither Larry Elder nor Newsom were there.

I would love to see a debate on the issues with Larry Elder and Gavin Newsom. Conservative principles vs. Liberal chaos theory of governance. Let’s have at it.

Newsom elevates Elder again.

He can expect a blistering retort. Which media will now carry.

And a smart Elder would get Newsom deep enough into the public debate to be unable to refuse a televised debate on this subject and dozens of others.

He wants people to believe that Larry Elder thinks people should be paid zero for their labor. And there will be people who buy into that.

Anybody that publicly states that the minimum wage should be zero or near zero will never get elected to be Governor of California.

“”[Elder] believes that women do not have the right to choose and wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade... “

Not relevant to a California state election.

CA legalized abortion in 1967, two years before Roe.

Ronald Reagan signed the bill.

It was limited to the physical and mental health of the mother, and to cases that came about due to felonious intercourse.

I hope to see Elder shove that one in Newsom’s face.

“Anybody that publicly states that the minimum wage should be zero or near zero will never get elected to be Governor of California.”

That’s where the smart money is.

But all Elder needs is a plurality among 40. 10-15% is plenty to win.

All that is needed is sufficient majority to overcome the systematic cheating endemic to CA elections...to depose Newsom.

After that Elder is a shoe in.

Lots of people

Elder should drop out now and crawl silently away at top speed.

Any rational person intuitively knows that a graph of the amount of money paid versus effort on the x-axis should go through the origin. It's like the zeroth law of economics.

Several days ago Larry Elder said he has no intention of getting rid of the minimum wage for this article is fake news.

And this article from 2017 shows his logic against “minimum wage”

Larry Elder | As predicted, minimum wage laws are destroying jobs
By Larry Elder www.larryelder.com Jun 30, 2017
https://www.tribdem.com/news/editorials/larry-elder-as-predicted-minimum-wage-laws-are-destroying-jobs/article_2a02c92c-5cde-11e7-a64f-13cc103b0cce.html

In the 1960s, my parents opened a small diner near downtown Los Angeles. As a child, I watched my parents sitting at the kitchen table, discussing their plans for what they considered a huge expansion of the business – hiring a dishwasher. But my parents kept putting off the decision, in large part because of a proposed minimum-wage hike. This would’ve made the additional employee, as I recall my parents concluding, “too expensive.”

This brings us to the impact of recent minimum wage hikes in California. The owner of a small restaurant told me that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti invited several small business owners to City Hall to discuss the impact of a proposed minimum wage hike.

Several brought profit-and-loss statements. Each business person, the small restaurant owner said, tried to convince the Democratic mayor that their profit margins were too small to take the wage hike without laying people off, cutting hours or raising prices, which usually means a falloff in business.

At the end of the meeting the mayor simply said, “I feel confident that you can absorb the cost.”

A new study by two researchers, one with Mathematica Policy Research and the other with Harvard Business School, focused on “the impact of the minimum wage on restaurant closures using data from the San Francisco Bay area.” The researchers concluded that “a $1 increase in the minimum wage leads to approximately a 4 to 10 percent increase in the likelihood of exit.” They wrote: “The evidence suggests that higher minimum wages increase overall exit rates for restaurants. However, lower quality restaurants, which are already closer to the margin of exit, are disproportionately impacted by increases to the minimum wage.” So the most vulnerable restaurants – the more “affordable” ones – appear to be the most hurt by a minimum wage hike.

In January, the East Bay Times reported that 60 restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area had shuttered their doors since September...

Newsom this week: “The Education codes has standards. I expect all school districts to follow them.” Tyrant. “Do as I say, or else...”

Good news. Orange Co. Calif. school district is suing Newsom, because the Orange Co. Calif district is stating that the rules for vaccines and masks are temporary executive orders. Good point.

There were a lot of jobs that I would have gladly worked for free just gain the skills to do those jobs later.

The minimum wage makes it impossible to learn the skills necessary to do rewarding work.

Interestingly they prohibit people from working for nothing to acquire job skills, but they charge students hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn useless skills in college.
