When did indoor air become cold and clean?
Air conditioning is one of those inventions that have become so ubiquitous, that many in the developed world don’t even realize that less than a century ago, it didn’t exist. Indeed, it wasn’t so long ago that the air inside our buildings and the air outside of them were one and the same, with occupants powerless against their environment.
Eric Dean Wilson, in his just published book, “After Cooling: On Freon, Global Warming, and the Terrible Cost of Comfort,” dives deep into the history of this field. It took more than just inventing the air conditioner to make people want to buy it. In fact, whole social classes outright rejected the technology for years. It took hustle, marketing skill, and mass societal change to place air conditioning at the center of our built environment.
Wilson covers that history, but he has a more ambitious agenda: to get us to see how our everyday comforts affect other people. Our choice of frigid cooling emits flagrant quantities of greenhouse gas emissions, placing untold stress on our planet and civilization. Our pursuit of comfort ironically begets us more insecurity and ultimately, less comfort.

Mark my words; within 5 years it will be considered racist for white people have A/C.

There was an even more recent time smart phones didn’t exist either. Try banning them these days.
Like my guns, they’re never ever going to get me to give up my A/C.
Come and take it!
Greenhouse gases are good. It’s why we can live and breathe.
I burn my garbage. My trees love it. And I love the oxygen my trees produce. It’s a very nice symbiotic circle.
2 years.
Quick, someone disable the A/C at Yahoo headquarters.
Uh, no ac would kill people where I live.
CO2 from man takes up only 0.00136% of the atmosphere- the earth is NOT dying from man’s CO2, nor even from all of man’s and nature’s greenhouse gases- (.04% of atmosphere)
Nowhere near enough to cause mass extinction or even catastrophic events- nowhere near—
Without AC, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada would still be mostly uninhabited stinking desert.
COME AND TAKE IT!
With the way the green new deal will be structured there won’t be any electricity to run the ACs for the serfs. The problem fixes itself.
and remove all the fans- because fans use electricity which requires fossil fuels to create- remove all ice too- can’t make that without icky electricity either
Give up AC if you want, I’m not and I don’t see the problem with it where and when it is necessary. That said, I do open the windows whenever days and conditions permit so that we get fresh air in the house, either to also cool it or warm it as well.
The scary truth is, when the Democrats are in power, America gets nothing but punitive threats, lock-downs, mandates, higher prices in every direction, violent open borders, less rights, calls for banning air conditioning, guns, private homes, private property et al.
You forgot the barf alert.
