Cry Macho, Shake Hollywoke
The American Spectator ^ | 19 Sep 2021T | Lou Aguilar

Only one man in Hollywoke today could make a movie as old-fashioned, straightforward, and ultimately uplifting as Cry Macho, and trigger half a dozen progressive landmines in 104 minutes. On the surface it’s the simple tale of a broken-down old Texas cowboy who goes to Mexico City to half-rescue, half-kidnap a rich rancher’s troubled son from his nefarious ex-wife. But deep down, it’s an elegiac cinematic poem about manhood old and young, womanhood, regret, loneliness, and second chances. Clint Eastwood corrals all those wild horses on both sides of the fence, as a marvelous director and an onscreen icon — sadly the last of the latter — while bucking the politically correct wallow of his Industry peers.

For Cry Macho is a western, despite the modern trappings of cars and phones. That is a forbidden genre to Hollywoke because men are men and women are women, hard as it has tried to inject feminism into it with pathetic results (The Quick and the Dead, Bad Girls, Godless). And if there’s any genre Clint Eastwood is a master of, it’s the western. He’s been making them off and on for 65 years. Now he’s added a fine contemporary one to his legacy.

A very good write-up on a movie that I just might pay to watch in a movie theater, breaking a years-long boycott. Just watched “A Fistful of Dollars” on Amazon Prime (free to end of September) and it was greater for knowing where it propelled Mr Eastwood in his career!

Looking forward to this movie. We’re going to support our local privately owned theater & see it when it comes to the Roxy.

It was a good movie but the ads before it started were sickening. Damn queers in everything nowadays. I much prefer the days when these freaks stayed hidden.

My wife and I saw Cry Macho this past Saturday. We both gave it ** out of ****. I like that it might trigger some libs, but it’s not a great movie. Still, it’s always good to see Clint.

I watched it last night. Not a bad movie. Nothing like what comes out anymore. I was really struck by how feeble Cint Eastwood looks though. Sad.

Walked out of the theatre at the end of the movie. Felt like I had just watched Willie Mays trying to play baseball for the Mets in 1973. He should have quit much earlier. The comment of another patron: “Dirty Harry is no more!” I found the movie to be devoid of any quality acting except for Natalia Traven as a love interest for Mike Milo (Clint Eastwood). The plot was totally predictable and painfully slow to develop. Could have watched it for free on HBO MAX but chose to go to the theatre to support our local Cinemax - and as always, the Popcorn was good!

Good (not great) movie. I love good theater movies, but this would not be one to see in a theater. You’d gain nothing from the experience.

I never cared what Variety thought.

They’ve always been insufferable.

My wife and I are fans of Eastwood and saw it the other night on HBO Max and it was one of the worst movies we’d ever seen. Save your $$
