Avoid pesticides
If your grapefruit are for personal consumption...I envy you. I can’t eat it because of meds. I miss it.
First thing to do is to just spray the tree with water and get underneath the leaves.
Just doing that alone will keep the numbers down as they don’t like water.
Second, make your own Insecticidal Soap. It’s really easy. I mix 3 Tablespoons of Dish Soap and 3 Tablespoons of Olive Oil per Gallon of water. Get one of those pump up sprayers that holds over a gallon and spray away.
NO need to go out a purchase the pre mixed stuff…. Just make it.
You are getting this info from an experienced 420 Grower.
I usually use a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol, along with some mouthwash, in a spray bottle. The alcohol supposedly dissolves them, and aids in drying the leaves quickly.
The mouthwash also contains some alcohol, and leaves a sticky residue to protect the leaves for a while. You’ll eventually have to re-apply.
Dish soap or tobacco juice. Or sprinkle diamatateous earth all over the tree. Its totally non toxic. We dust our chickens for mites with it.
Note.....A healthy tree typically shuns spider mites. There is an underlying weakness in the tree. Get it looked at by an arborist for proper soil balance of pH and fertility. Something is weakening the tree.
You can diliute hydrogen peroxide and spray it. I’ve done that on indoor plants in a tent and it worked fine. Not going to hurt anyone ingesting anything either.
I mix dawn soap with water and spray the whole tree and let it sit for a few minutes. The soap chokes them out and afterward you simply rinse the tree off. Works all the time for me.
i’ve read that you can blast them off with high pressure water and they have limited ability to crawl back up ...
