Very sad how the birth of our Savior is presented commercially and on television.
I see no 'Jesus in the Manger' pictures anywhere. Just references to Santa Claus, buying gifts and parties.
What happened to singing carols? Like this: https://www.bing.com/search?q=home+free+o%27+holy+night&FORM=QSRE7
What are your thoughts?
Your thoughts are my thoughts.
sorry for the bad link. It is a video of the Group ‘Home-Free’ singing ‘Oh Holy Night’.
I get the sense, after many years of experiencing Christmas, that it is not celebrated as it should be. Christmas is a celebration of Christ’s birth, but it seems to concentrate less on that & more on other aspects of the season, some of which are probably completely inappropriate.
It’s sad, but not unique. For example, many people see the Fourth of July as just a day to have a cook-out, and maybe watch some fireworks. There is little thought as to the the actual meaning of the day.
Yes....and Easter consists of ‘Easter Egg Hunts’.
What happened?
Liberalism, materialism, narcissism, communism, facism, racism……
Feel free to add any isms I didn’t think of.
Secondly? I don't care what is portrayed in the Media about Christmas. They LIE to us 24/7 as it is. 'Christmas' IS about the birth of our Savior. And 99.999% of true Christians celebrate it as such.
Do you have a Church Home? If so, spend as much time there as you can this weekend. If they're doing a Christmas Pageant with kids, all the better! Your Faith in Humanity will be restored. :)
I work in Christian radio and this is what I’ve said many times on my morning show:
“There’s nothing wrong with all the Christmas parties, kids concerts, wrapping, baking, shopping, gifts, etc., but remember to keep Jesus right in the center of your celebration. All the trappings of Christmas may bring some happiness, but Jesus will bring continued joy.”
Merry Christmas my FRiend!
I hate that Christmas is about gifting and commercialization. Our culture is diseased.
Last night my wife and I watched this year's "Christmas at Belmont" concert at PBS. This was a concert by students and faculty at Belmont University, a private Christian school in Nashville. Apparently, they have a fine arts program comparable to Julliard. The show features an orchestra, chorus and soloists from the school. Most years they have a "special guest" or two, but this year it was just the Belmont students (and some faculty). Some students specialize in specific kinds of music, so there is a jazz combo, a musical theater song, classical orchestral, choral, etc. While they did some secular songs like "Winter Wonderland", and a medley from the movie "White Christmas" many of the songs were very Christ-centered. They did one choral piece that was almost a chant which based on the constant iteration of the lines from the "In the beginning was the word" section from the Gospel of John. It was an uplifting program and I was kind of surprised to see it on PBS.
The current ‘war on Christmas’ is a bunch of crap. The war was lost decades, even centuries ago when the true meaning of the season was swallowed by commercialization.
I wrote them a letter telling them what I thought about it. Never saw the commercial again. I imagine a lot of other people had responded in the same way.
Get off TV. Get off the internet.
It will calm you down and make you happy.
I think this culture makes too big a deal out of Christmas. De escalate a bit and it can be an enjoyable time. One big step is to agree with those you are celebrating with to forego a gift exchange and a lot of the pressure is removed. That removes a lot of the commercialization and allows one to focus more on the birth of the saviour of the world.
