Her TV debut was in 1939, two months after she graduated from Beverly Hills High School, when White sang "The Merry Widow" on an experimental local transmission.

Do you mean 1939, 18 years old?
Did you see the comments?
Someone says it is not THAT Betty White.
She was born in 1922. This is a radio recording in 1930 at age 8.
1939 relates to her TV debut after high school.
no, 1930
Yeah, I saw that but that’s the ONLY place I have seen that contention.
???
Maybe?
Betty bump.
At the very beginning of that recording has asks her name. She replied with her real name. It’s her.

Betty White and Johnny Carson
It starts slow but it’s worth the wait. :D
For later.

I can hardly make it out, but it sounds like she says “BEATRICE ANN HYNAM”.
Also, the man seems to call her ANN.
The poster commenting that this is the wrong person is believable. He specifies this is sponsored by the Great Northern RW (which had an Empire Builder train; and the choo choo whistle is in the effects) and he even sports a Great Northern avatar for himself. He is probably quite the fan of this defunct RW and studies a lot about it.
Granted the audio is bad, but that’s what I could discern. Did not sound like “WHITE” at all.
I’m sorry…I just am not paying attention. That was them launching right into the show.
At the end, all they said was “BETTY WHITE”. There was no detail, and how many Betty Whites are there, really? Very common.
I still say the poster was convincing. Not convinced this is Betty Marion White.
