Peter Billingsley, who starred as Ralphie Parker in A Christmas Story when he was only 12, will be returning to lead a sequel to the perennial holiday favorite.

The 50-year-old child star–turned–filmmaker will be reprising his role in the new film, which is expected to take place when Ralphie is an adult in the 1970s, The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Thursday.

In addition to starring in the sequel to the 1983 classic — titled A Christmas Story Christmas — Billingsley will produce for its production companies Legendary and Warner Bros.

The Christmas Chronicles director Clay Kaytis is attached to direct the film, which will be released on Warner's HBO Max streaming service.

Billingsley will be joined by his longtime friend Vince Vaughn to produce A Christmas Story Christmas for their company Wild West Picture Show Productions.

The original Christmas Story was an episodic period piece set sometime in the late 1930s to early 1940s that follows nine-year-old Ralphie as he navigates school and family relationships in a fictional Indiana town while dreaming of getting a Red Ryder BB rifle for Christmas.

In the '70s-set sequel, Ralphie will return home to his old house on Cleveland Street to give his own children the same kind of 'magical Christmas' he experienced as a child.

The original film was lauded for its realistic production design, which impeccably matched the time period and the Midwestern setting, and the publication writes that the new film will try to adopt a similar style.

Adult Ralphie will reunite with some of his childhood friends featured in the original movie while also trying to move on from the death of his father, often referred to as The Old Man in the original and played by Darren McGavin.

Although the original was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio, with some additional

I would be excited, but from what Hollywood is churning out these days, I expect this will be a disaster.

I can’t believe it’s been 50 years.

I'd rather see a prequel that focuses on the childhood of the Old Man, set in the 1890s.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing this. Billingsly is one of the few childhood actors who didn't succumb to drugs, poverty, or tragedy. And he still looks like a friggin' kid.

I want to, because the original was so great.

But all that Hollywood puts out these days is just derivative of what it’s done in the past.

There don’t seem to be any new ideas, and very, very few truly brilliant movies.

It must be 20 years since I was actually moved to see one on the big screen in a theater - and I can’t even remember what it was...

Unless its based on a writing from Jean Shepard, it stands about as much chance as the other sequels. Without Jean or Darrin McGavin……aint nuthin there. Have the same impact as a Gilligan Island reunion

The movie is actually based (mostly) on Ralphie and Flick rehashing old times at Flicks bar. The reason this movie works so well is because of its representation of Americana. I don’t think they can produce that emotion anymore.

The original house is now a museum. Locals will probably be glad to join the fun again.

We went to the house a few months ago. It was actually pretty cool and the neighborhood seemed all in.

In today’s woke world they’ll have him buying a “assault rifle” and shooting some transgendered black person in the eye with it.

He will turn in his BB gun in a sign of unity with leftist gun buy backs. His wife will have an abortion on Christmas day. His son will decide he is really a girl and want a doll for Christmas and his daughter will decide she is a boy but want a doll too. The whole family will join Black Lives Matter and drown when the sea levels rise because of climate change.

It was largely a boy’s movie and they can’t have that. It will be like the remake of Sandlot.
