(Charlie Jacobs is the pen name of a California wife and mother of two teenagers. Until recently, she worked part time in a professional capacity, but is now dedicated to educating other parents about how gender ideology can overtake a child.)
My husband and I looked to a Catholic school to be an ally in our fight to break our daughter free from the grip of gender confusion. We were naive.
Our daughter, now 15, was 13 when she was coached into believing that she was born in the wrong body and could change to be the opposite sex. This led her to self-loathing.
But instead of finding a partner within the Roman Catholic Church, we discovered that our local Catholic high school had adopted procedures that promote transgenderism. This situation has left us with no safe place to educate our child and a profound feeling of disappointment and abandonment.
As I previously wrote for The Daily Signal, our daughter’s transgender identity came with little warning. She started ninth grade at a public charter high school in the fall of 2020, but due to COVID-19 didn’t actually set foot in a classroom.
During the first week of online classes, I noticed that all her teachers were referring to her by male pronouns and a male name. My husband and I were stunned.
We later learned that our daughter, who had been happy as a stereotypical girl up until puberty, had “come out” to her school as “trans.”
When I contacted the charter school, her designated counselor cheerfully informed me that the school permits children to “lead” and self-identify concerning gender without consulting their parents.

Also see "illegal immigration" - the RC church was instrumental in forcing the moslem invasion on Europe. They are now repeating that process with illegals from South/Central America and Mexico invading the USA - with the church facilitating the invasion and NOT GIVING ANY WARNING to its membership.
My niece went to a Catholic school which was the most Communist place I’d ever seen. And that was in the ‘90s.
There is a solution, but folks will not take it.
The Church hasn’t gone full-blown communist, but a fellow traveler outlook is now fairly common in what presently passes for leadership. For what the Church actually teaches on social subjects, read social encyclicals, and what JP II teaches on the subject is every bit as authoritative and much more extensive, important, and articulate as what his successors have taught (Benedict is really good on some areas, but this isn’t his field).
At points part of the Church passed as citadels in the culture war, but the thing has devolved into Stalingrad.
We are going to need more millstones.
In my youth I constantly reiterated that I wanted to be a boy. This mostly centered around my fascination with A) motorcycles B) firearms and C) freedom. I didn’t ever want to squeeze girls, although, like most people, I don’t mind the sight of a gorgeous gal at all. There’s something uplifting about it, as long as it’s not one of the K4rdash1ans.
I’m really, really glad that this wasn’t going on when I was a kid. Being female is not exactly a picnic, but there are lots of benefits.
Someone could easily have talked me into something like this when I was little, though.
Jesus: I would have talked you out of it, though.
Me: Oh, come on! Surely you have more important things to worry about!
JC: Check your pants.
I respectfully disagree with part of that statement. The communist RC doesn't push that transgender BS in communist China where the Chicoms are trying hard to move away from effeminate male heroes. They push that only on the mostly Protestant west.
Have you ever done drag? I was only in drag once, and that was as the Wicked Witch at a birthday party when I was 8 years old. That ended my drag career. You have to be so careful of what you say. My friend told me this story, “You know, every gay man once tried on their mother’s shoes.” You did it once; you never did it again. But now, if you have a very liberal mother and they catch you, you have sexual reassignment lessons at 8 years old. And you might not really wanna do that.
I have found the same in Catholic school but it is less pronounced than criminal public schools
This is what happens when parents don’t do their homework. Get involved with the school. Get to know the teachers and administration. Go to the Parent-Teacher conferences and ask questions. I’m hoping that 2020/21 will be known as the “Great Parent Awakening.”
Scarlett, you have described (IMHO) exactly what occurs with many of the kids who feel like they were born into the wrong body or are a homosexual. For example, if you define being gay to a young child as “liking people in your own gender” then yes... so many kids are going to think they are gay. during elementary school and middle school (and even into high school), I thought boys were really gross (because to be honest, they were). Boys hung out with other boys because girls were (yucky, different, etc). How many girls who like sports, motorcycles, fishing, etc.. would be told they may not be straight because of their interests? With society defining women/girls with examples of high gloss, surgically enhanced, morally bankrupt female images... lots more will choose not to define themselves in that light.
Oh come on...what's not to like about spending your allowance on Wacky Packages, punching each other on birthdays, eating dirt, and thinking deodorant is for sissies.
...on second thought...
You love(d) motorcycles, guns and freedoms? Sounds like the perfect WOMAN to me!
Considering the Catholic church hides child molesters, why would anyone think they are anything but extreme left-wing liberals?
I was much the same, except I am also attracted to women. Married to a man, though. It’ll be 13 years this June.
Teens, especially girls, going through puberty always hate their bodies for one reason or another, and some more than others. I was a very heavy girl growing up thanks to renal insufficiency that wasn’t discovered until 16, so I wore boys’ clothes, played with boys’ toys, played video games (I was born in the late 80’s) like DOOM and Quake (and their successor shooters), and almost all of my closest friends were boys. Guys still make up 90% of my friend pool.
Even when I was dating in high school, I was a tomboy. My ex didn’t mind. We dated from 14-21. Then when all of the weight came off, I feminized quickly when it came to my appearance. I had confidence, and I think that’s where a lot of this gender confusion comes from. Girls just encountering puberty want to go back to a more asexual past and are confused into thinking they can be boys. Anything to not be a girl.
Yes, being a woman has downsides. My health problems caused havoc on my system, with my longest cycle lasting sixteen straight months. I finally had to have a hysterectomy at about 29. Before that it was a tubal at 19, thanks to said health problems. I never wanted to have to make the decision between my life and a child’s.
But I would never want to permanently alter my body to be, “male.” If I were a teen now, I know I’d fall for this. I would like to think I wouldn’t, but 15 and under me was so desperate to not be heavy that I would have done anything.
Thank you for your very interesting and informative post. Our prayers are with you.
They should have home-schooled the daughter. They spent more time dealing with idiots in the school than they would have by home-schooling her. But, I guess they were trying to keep a Catholic school from going full-blown apostate.
Gender dysphoria is a real disorder, but like gluten intolerance, for every genuine sufferer there are at least a dozen who are just trying it on for attention, especially among teenagers. The difference is those pretending to be gluten intolerant do not maim their own bodies irreversibly.
As a lifelong tomboy I’m glad I was born when I was. Children do not yet have a clear concept of self and will often say whatever they think will please the adults in their lives. Trans activists have gone so far left they’ve met the far right in insisting that if you prefer RPGs, coding, and entomology to frilly dresses and makeup you can’t be a “real” woman. The Procrustean gender roles remain, only now we change the children’s genitals to match their hobbies rather than changing their hobbies to match their genitals.
EXACTLY!!! What use to get me grossed out were the “fart competitions” between the boys! Then they would wonder why no girl would dance with them at the middle school dance! LOL :)
