The death of a Connecticut seventh grader from an apparent fentanyl overdose has renewed calls for schools to carry the opioid antidote naloxone
The death of a 13-year-old student who apparently overdosed on fentanyl at his Connecticut school has drawn renewed pleas for schools to stock the opioid antidote naloxone, as well as for training of both staffers and children on how to recognize and respond to overdoses.
The seventh grader died Jan. 15 after falling ill at a Hartford school that did not have naloxone on hand. City officials vowed Wednesday to put the antidote in all city schools, as part of a wider drug use and overdose prevention strategy.
“Naloxone should be available in all schools, and there should be education on signs and symptoms of overdose and how to use this,” said Dr. Craig Allen, vice president of addiction services for Hartford HealthCare’s Behavioral Health Network. “Unfortunately, a horrible incident like this happens and suddenly everyone’s vision is 20/20.” Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said that because of the student's young age, an opioid overdose did not immediately come to mind when the school nurse and first responders, who did have naloxone, treated him.

If you can’t kill them by abortion or experimental vaccine, kill them with rat poison.
It’s all good.
What’s a 13 year old doing with Fentanyl? Must be stolen from the parents.
yes... for ONE stupid death we need to spend $millions to stock drugs for a problem that does not really exist.
America is becoming so SICK!
Pretty hard-core stuff for seventh grade, IMO.
I would tell them NO we are NOT stocking Narcan, and so if you take fentanyl you will probably die before you get to the hospital.
And make sure they all know it.
I was wondering if it was on purpose or accidental. It’s so powerful, it can be accidental exposure. Police officers have gone into overdose after patting down suspects that had been taking carfentanil.
How about shut the southern border instead?
Drug use, unless prescribed for an illness is a CHOICE. Bad choices frequently have bad consequences. But keep bailin’ ‘em out and they’ll keep doin’ it.
Society and population are collapsing, yet regressive government only treats the symptoms, also usually in the most ham-fisted way.
Or worse, regressive government is the ultimate cause of the problem itself.
Every school in the country should have a full time school nurse, physician’s assistant or whatever to watch over and/or administer to these kids....AND write up monthly reports to be sent to ?????????? to show what the hell is going on in schools.
“died Jan. 15 after falling ill”
FALLING ILL? Hardly.
“there should be education on signs and symptoms of overdose”
Unfortunately, kids “nodding out” in a public school class is not going to be a unique symptom to identify an overdose.
“Police officers have gone into overdose after patting down suspects that had been taking carfentanil.”
Urban legend. Fentanyl is not easily absorbed through the skin.
Fight bureaucracy with more bureaucracy. What could go wrong?
In the 2 overdoses I have witnessed the person doesn’t simply nod off. Their breathing becomes slowed and gasping. The one I saw while in a restaurant was sitting in a chair ad fell to the floor.
Narcan can and should be in a school nurses tool box. There is no reason not to have it. Parents, teachers and yes, kids may need it.
How dare you take money from the mouths of poor starving big pharma CEOs. How dare you!
How about shut the southern border instead?”
That is too sensible of a remedy. The elites don’t mind a bit if our young people die from the cartel’s drugs because they also bring in a new group of voters and a nice sex trade.
Did the kid take it voluntarily to get high? If the answer is yes, then tough luck. I doubt that anyone who read and speaks English in the usa is unaware of the risks of fentanyl. If someone slipped it to him then that’s murder, but neither on is justification for using my money to stock schools with Naloxone.
