.
Yes, she did. They made some wonderful music, fit for generations. That era churned out quite a lot of precious sounds.
She has always been my favorite female singer also.
Mom used to play her Carpenters cassettes all the time. A Looong time ago.👍
That was sung during my High School graduation ceremony.
She did.
Written by Pauk Williams IIRC.
It was originally written and recorded (by someone else) as the music for a bank commercial.
I thought this was about 2/4’s and joist hangers.
She was a pretty good drummer too.
My very first concert. Civic Arena in Pittsburgh circa 1972. She and Freddy Mercury are my 2 favorite vocalists. Both died well before their time. Both deaths were self inflicted.
- This song was spotted by Richard Carpenter on a TV commercial. It was late in 1970, and a bank in California called Crocker National Bank had it playing to appeal to young people starting out. Paul Williams sang it. Here is one of the last remaining copies of this commercial.
- Richard saw Paul in the studio, and he asked Paul if there were any other lyrics. Paul replied, there was, a bridge and another set of lyrics. Richard got ahold of it, and with his gift of production skills, made it the monster it became.
Actually, it was written by Paul Williams.
Little Enos?
Yes, she was.
Well, not like anyone would really care but hey it all links up, "close to you", because we've only just begun. Great timing.
Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold and
starlight in your eyes of blue

IIRC if I remember correctly
It’s not a song or genre I favor but I fully agree. Karen Carpenter’s voice is incomparable and ethereal.
However, even in her more optimistic recordings such as this there is an undertone of sadness and despair underlying her masterful vocal work.
That beautiful contralto of hers — it was gorgeous.
I remember way back, when my daughter was about two, maybe three, and we were sitting in the car waiting for my husband to get some things in the grocery store.
We’ve Only Just Begun came on the radio (listening to XM) and she and I sat, transfixed, listening as that song progressed.
When it was over, she gave me a hug and a kiss and said, “Beautiful, mama... beautiful...”
And when the hubs returned, he was perplexed as to why his two girls were all misty eyed and hugging.
So I had to explain, “Karen Carpenter was on XM.”
He understood.
Richards featuring wood winds was a stroke of musical arranging genius.
