Another great one hit wonder.
Funny, I just got back from the gym and that song played there. I hadn’t heard it for some time. It’s a catchy tune.
I used to think that it was a self-aware sort of baton-passing, or perhaps a band demonstrating its flexibility during an evolutionary career "die off" period in music history, but I have lately come to believe that this an early comment on what was starting to change with young women at the time. Think about it; the song starts with an uplifting mellow vibe about a young lady who is excited to begin her new life in the big city (and it uses the new sound to suggest her freshness), but it musically degenerates into a same, old grinding that the previous generation had already long associated with the seedy club scene, suggesting that first fall of the young protagonist was lust. Today it sounds, as the kids call it, "super red-pilled".
I know. Some people hate it. I still like it.
It was from 1980, not 1979. Get your head in the game.
Released March 1980. Hit no. 1 May 31, 1980.

I’ve always liked the song. Reminds me of being in a disco at 2am having fun.
It’s an effective Earworm.
Similar to the work of a Swedish group called Ace of Base. One of their hits was “All She Really Wants Is Another Baby. It combines Disco with Reggae.

I know nothing about the songs origins but I’d bet the farm that some musician or more likely by the sound of the song some producer was fooling around with a synth or drum machine and “heard something” and built it up from there.
I hated disco but loved that song. I even bought the album, which sucks, BTW, except for that song.
Funny you brought that up. The only Ace of Bass song I really like. And you’re right.
I’ll add a third song to the list:

True story.
I used to work at caterpillar here in Denver.
All we did was fill orders for people who needed parts. It was just a big warehouse.
For some strange reason, they played music in the entire warehouse.
One night, this song was playing.
There was a tall black guy that I worked with.
I loved him. He was hilarious, and very witty.
While this song was playing, he stopped what he was doing and screamed at the top of his lungs, “TAKE THE BITCH!!”
The entire warehouse full of employees almost pissed themselves laughing so hard.
I just thought that I would share that.
