It’s unreal. It’s amazing how many relic FReepers are peddling this insanity like this is 1939.

Indeed. Many blithely advocate destroying Moscow, as if there would be no repercussion.
Most have no comprehension of what fusion weapons are, including the nitwits in Congress. The atomic bombs dropped on Japan were fission weapons. Fusion weapons use a fission reaction as the trigger to initiate the fusion reaction. These weapons are literally the power of the Sun dropped on a city.

technically our h-bombs are fission-fusion-fission weapons, where the fission-initiated fusion is used to contain a more powerful fission (which can also contain a more powerful fusion, and so on).
future star faring aliens might hear our radio transmissions and venture forth to visit us, only to discover a planet surfaced in eroding green glass with an atmosphere of unbreathable nitrogen oxides and radioactive sea of fizzy dilute nitric acid.
In a few tens of millions of years the anerobic bacteria might rise from the sea bottom and mutate into cyanobacteria and start things all over again with another Great Oxidation.
Most nuclear exchange scenarios I’ve seen stop before 800 events. But conceivably there could be thousands of detonations, resulting in multiple gigatons of energy release.
