This is a 12 minute video of some guys testing Sawyer brand permethrin spray for tick protection.
HOA won’t allow them
Tick vacuum cleaners.
Not an option due to HOA
He should only have to spray them every six weeks or six washings; it is very effective (killing ticks instead of repelling them), and baked into newer military clothes (even that after a while has to be re-sprayed).
Between that and regular bug spray on exposed skin/hair, he should be fine.
Back in the day I did a lot of backcountry camping in the mountains and I used Avon Skin-So-Soft diluted about 30% with water. Tics, skeeters, gnats, biting flys etc wont touch it. It lasts a long time per application, and it smells good.
Do possums carry ticks?
Possums eat ticks.
My 11 month old puppy had a Lone Star tick on his ear. We’ve never had any problems with ticks in our yard, so we were only giving them flea medicine. So I rushed to the vet and got her and the others some Nextguard. $22 each pill, lasts 1 month. Mr. FlamingConservative is going to have the yard treated. 3 dogs, $66 a month for the next several months. Grrrr. Funny how those meds never go generic, ain’t it?
Why is there an advertisement on FreeRepublic? There’s nothing CRAZY about this experiment, other than its ameteurishness. What next? Are you going to show us the blind taste test between Pepsi vs Cocacola?
Good. Maybe it will keep the neighbors’ cats out of our yard. Why is it okay for people to have a bunch of intact cats running loose? Our cat is NEVER allowed outdoors. For her safety, and as a good neighbor.
I always carry a possum or two in my pockets when I go into the woods.
I remember Skin-So-Soft touted for that unintended benefit (bug repellent) - it stood out because it didn’t carry some of the nastier chemicals.
At a trailhead kiosk along the NJ/NY border, I saw advertisements posted by some entrepreneur selling a whole body net that was worn under your clothes (which would allegedly prevent tick burrowing). I doubt it would work, as it appeared the tick could at least puncture the skin to feed even if it couldn’t delve into the flesh.
HOAs are concentration camp guard training for the Karens of this world.
Of course, my mother was a little taken aback that I was asking for Avon products from Marine boot camp!
I’ve used it. It works well, just follow the directions carefully and don’t let cats get exposed while it’s wet.

Especially guineas.
I primarily remember it as a mosquito repellent back in the day (Lyme Disease was still relatively new and not as widespread as it is now). Today I wouldn’t expect it to repel ticks.
Ticks are one of their primary food sources.
Thank God I have all white pets. Extremely easy to spot ticks and other unwanted pests!
