How could the jury both find the allegations that Herd claims were a hoax, and find for Depp?

Also, the “hoax” statement came from the lawyer, he should pony that up.

Depp gets the 5.350 million, and has to give back 2. Net 3.35 mill. The guy probably get 10 times that for doing a movie.

"The guy probably get 10 times that for doing a movie."

To think some people get million's upon million's just to throw a baseball / football.

Just wait for the book to come out: I cut Johnny's (fill in the blank) by juror No.######

They did agree that her op-ed was not technically a hoax; but if you read the article, he sued over three claims and prevailed on two out of three. She countersued for three claims and only prevailed on one. The jury considered each claim on its own merits. Well done.

He was awarded a total of $10,350,000, of which he will have to pay her $2,000,000 = net $8,350,000 before lawyer fees. So, net around ten or twelve dollars (/sarcasm); but that's not the point. He said he needed to clear his name on behalf of his children, and luckily for him, he could still afford to undertake a very costly trial.

Many divorcing spouses of either sex are unable to obtain fair justice under no-fault, and continue to have their lives wrecked by a vindictive ex badmouthing them to their children's school, family members, etc.

“How could the jury both find the allegations that Herd claims were a hoax, and find for Depp?”

There was a claim (by Depp) and a counterclaim (by Heard). Depp won on every count of his claim, and Heard lost on every count of her counterclaim, except for one.

The one count she won on was about a statement that said she and her friends made one call to police, who didn’t see any injuries or damages, and left, and then Amber and her friends trashed the place and spilled wine and called the police a second time.

At trial it was demonstrated that both of the calls to police were made before the police first showed up, even though a second visit by police was dispatched hours later. So that statement actually was proven to be false. I think this was a compromise by the jury, to get every one to vote unanimously, they agreed to concede this one point to Heard, because it was proven false, even if it wasn’t really proven to be done maliciously.

He had to fight her because she cost him about $100 million in income through lost opportunities. There were at least three movies in the pipeline that he had but lost when the allegations came to light.

It’s the principle that drove this lawsuit.

Amber Heard was revealed to be a serial liar, slamming Depp to get the spotlight.

Depp retaliated and embellished, hence, damages against him as well.

So glad that he prevailed. She is one sick piece of work.
