Today is the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests. The Late Mark Heard wrote this song about it.
Today is the anniversary of these protest
may God bless the Chinese diaspora, the CCP persecuted Chinese Student Movement, and those underground in China, those ‘Poor huddled masses, yearning to breathe [and worship] free.’
‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.’ - The Lord, Jesus Christ.
Yeah, I watched the 1976 movie the remember
I haven’t heard Mark Heard’s name in several decades.
He was instrumental in Christian music.
Thank you for this.
Mark Heard was a really great artist/writer. His friend Pierce Pettis continues to tour and perform- a Christian writer/performer. Heard from Macon, GA, died a couple of days after he had a heart attack on stage with Pierce, he temporarily recovered, but the blockage continued to grow apparently and he had a massive MI. Pierce has, since Mark’s death, recorded one Mark Heard song on each album he has released. Heard was Pierce’s studio producer and they were friends.
A little known item is that Mark Heard’s studio engineer was Buddy Miller- who has gone on to perform with Alison Krauss, internationally and with his wife.
Another example of the cutting writing and serious commentary from Mark, with brilliant lyics on the lack of self restraint at a minimum— is this one Buddy Miller version of “I worry too Much” (Second Hand- For the Little Ones)”
