“I don’t particularly listen to punk rock anymore,”....I like Steely Dan. Is that bad?”

Steely Dan music sounds as fresh today as it did 45 years ago. Lots of folks today are just discovering them for the first time.

Even Johnny Rotten likes ABBA.

Steely Dan’s lyrics actually are pretty punk. Lot of downtrodden outsiders in those songs.

Not as bad as liking Kenny G. or Yanni or the Dave Matthews band.

He probably can’t remember recording “Never Mind the Bollocks” or being on stage since he was boozed and coked up most of the time in those days. He is right about Steely Dan. I think Jones is now a DJ in LA. I saw an interview he did with Steve Perry of Journey and Jones admitted he was a big fan of both Journey and Boston!

What does ABBA have to do with anything (good music related).

This is quite normal. I would prefer listening to Steely Dan as well. I did like the Sex Pistols when I was in high school. Now they just give me a headache.

While
Anger is an Energy is a Public Image Ltd song, not a Pistols song, it gives insight as to why Jones is not a fan of punk anymore.
That music is both angry and energetic, and a 66 year old man should be long past anger, and mostly out of energy.
I'd think if he still liked punk, there would be something wrong with him!

While Anger is an Energy is a Public Image Ltd song,The song is called "Rise", and I certainly wouldn't call it punk.

I don’t like Kenny G., but I did hear him playing along to “Pick Up the Pieces” by Average White Band recently. AWB did not need his musical input, but it wasn’t too bad.
