SHOCK POLL: DeSantis Within Single Digits of Trump in New National GOP Primary Survey
Mediaite ^ | June 29th, 2022 | Tommy Christopher

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is within single digits of ex-President Donald Trump in a new national poll, the closest he’s been in this or any other reputable poll — and that’s before Tuesday’s bombshell testimony.

A sample of Republican and Republican-leaning respondents to a new Yahoo! News/YouGov poll were asked “Who would you rather see as the Republican nominee for President in 2024?” and given a choice between Trump and DeSantis.

Among registered voters, 45 percent prefer Trump, while 36 percent prefer DeSantis — a nine-point difference that normally wouldn’t seem very close.

But for Trump, in a reputable Republican primary poll, it’s the closest anyone has gotten.

If the poll is accurate then it is a big deal. At this point polls have a large component of name recognition and even though DeSantis is the governor of a large state and has been in the news a lot I’d bet a significant portion of the electorate doesn’t know who he is.

Name recognition, money and experience.
Walk down Main Street, Anywhere, USA, and ask people if they ever heard of Ron Desantis. Conservatives will know who he is, but the average man on the street is gonna say “Who’s that?”.
On the other hand, the entire world knew who Donald Trump was long before he ran for president and long before he had a tv show. His name has been linked to American success for decades.
Donald Trump is the only MAGA candidate who could spend a billion dollars on his campaign and still be a billionaire. The RINOs will steal the nomination from Desantis, guaranteed. He simply does not have the money or financial support to defeat the RINOs.
Desantis’ experience is good, but it’s limited to the state of Florida.
Trump has proven beyond doubt that he has the experience to be president.
He did more in four years than the previous presidents did in thirty years.
The RINOs are going to keep pushing Desantis to try and break the bond Trump has with the voters.
Not gonna work.
I like Desantis but it has to be Trump in 2024, unless he says he’s not running.

4 more years of President Trump followed by 8 years of President DeSantis works for me.

When it comes time for Trump to pick a running mate, Desantis will sit across from Trump and Trump will either make him his apprentice or do the cobra and tell him he is fired.

He’s prolly being paid to divide the vote, he and his komrades. Some maybe benefit by their deep state connections. So sad to see real Freepers fall for this.

I prefer DeSantis, but he WILL NOT RUN if Trump announced. Only a complete dolt would not support Trump over any Stasi Democrat if he is the nominee.

Nationwide poll and Desantis gets 36%? I really don’t believe 36% of Republicans even know who he is.

Another Crap poll just like the others you have posted.

Registered voters who responded to a Yahoo/YouGov poll.

Not Likely voters.

No mention of the details of the poll.

No mention of the process used to determine the legitimacy of the respondents.

NOTHING.

This is a Trash Poll
.

From your articleL

A sample of Republican and Republican-leaning respondents to a new Yahoo! News/YouGov poll were asked “Who would you rather see as the Republican nominee for President in 2024?” and given a choice between Trump and DeSantis. , 45 percent prefer Trump, while 36 percent prefer DeSantis — a nine-point difference that normally wouldn’t seem very close. But for Trump, in a reputable Republican primary poll, it’s the closest anyone has gotten. DeSantis came within about a point of Trump in a poll commissioned by never-Trumper John Bolton‘s SuperPAC, but Trump typically leads DeSantis by 20 or 30 points in GOP polls. He trailed Trump by 23 and 16 in the last two Yahoo! polls of registered voters, in January and February.

DeSantis has dominated the non-Trump candidates for a very long time. And DeSantis’s support is as deep as it is wide, relative to the non-Trump candidates. In one poll from UMass Amherst conducted by YouGov, Trump led DeSantis 55% to 20%, but DeSantis receive support from 69 percent of Republicans who listed him as either their first (20%), second (37%) or third (12%) choice.

In order to get to anything respectable, they had to lump together their first, second, and third choices.

Do you think DeSantis is going to have a economic war with Europe? I HIGHLY doubt that. That happens to be core MAGA according to Trump 2016. Trump was willing to put tariffs (heavy ones) on Mexico, Canada, China and India ans I’m very confident Europe would have happened in his second term (was going to be great to watch). All the “conservatives” said it was a tax and wouldn’t touch it. He had virtually no support in government. Is put steel tariffs on tha DeSantis and the “Conservative “ wing wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot poll. Trump and DeSantis are not the same and it’s not even close. All in for Trump and if it’s not him it may as well be Biden because it will be business as usual.

I’m fine if DeSantis runs but Trump will crush him. DeSantis would keep Trump closer to the right though which isn’t all bad. DeSantis will, at some point, take a position his supporters don’t agree with or think makes him a sellout, let’s see if he has the loyal support Trump does.

It’s not a shock. Trump served his purpose. He’s not the god emperor of Dune.

DeSantis will run regardless of what Trump does. And he will win because the country doesn’t want another near-octogenarian president.

This comment tells me you don’t know your Constitution well. It’s not just you, I see this mistake a lot. While President and VP candidates can be from the same state, in this case if they won, Florida could only give their electoral votes to either the presidential candidate or to the VP, but not both. So you if Trump won and had DeSantis as VP candidate, you would probably have the Dem as VP.
