Democrats spending millions to protect 2 blue state senators (panic in Washington, Colorado)
Politico ^ | 6/28/22 | Natalie Allison

Less than a year ago, a GOP Senate victory in deep blue Washington state would have been unthinkable. But now, Democrats are spending millions on advertising in several once-reliable Democratic strongholds, including Washington, as Republicans build national momentum and push for new Senate pickups.

There’s a similar panic in Colorado, where Tuesday’s GOP Senate primary has also drawn millions of dollars in Democratic-funded ads to boost a far-right candidate, a massive last-ditch campaign to keep a moderate Republican off the ballot this fall.

Washington’s Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, meanwhile, has spent more than $1 million on television ads in recent weeks, including two attacking her Republican opponent, Tiffany Smiley, in a state President Joe Biden won by nearly 20 points.

Both sets of ad buys suggest that Republicans are pressing to expand the number of Senate races in which they might pick up a seat in the narrowly divided chamber - and Democrats are worried they may be becoming even more vulnerable.

Murray’s scramble to boost her standing months before the November election - and to attack Smiley on her stance against abortion rights - comes as new polling shows the blue-state race has tightened even before Smiley begins her own advertising on air.

In a poll conducted last week and obtained by POLITICO, Murray is leading Smiley by 5 percentage points, just over the survey’s 4.1 percent margin of error. The internal Smiley poll, conducted by The Tarrance Group, had Murray with 48 percent of the vote, compared to Smiley at 43 percent.

The economy and inflation in general and gas prices and food prices and the stock market ain’t gettin’ any better between now and November. If these Democrat Senators are worried now, they have good reason to be.

We need some good hard-hitting ads. Remember, a lot of people don’t really know what’s going on because the media hides it. The ads must spell out things like what caused inflation and how people like Patty Murray and her votes contributed. i.e. Patty Murray voted for Biden’s 2 trillion dollar American Rescue Plan that along with high fuel costs have been the main contributor to inflation.

Patty Murray has to be the dumbest woman in the Senate

There's a lot of competition.

I posted a copy of the receipt.

I think I misread your handle “Texasgurl 24” as “TexasGurl 124”, which is why your handle may not be associated with the donation.

“Your previous predictions failed.”

Oh please. Who here besides me had 2018 House D+40? At least I understand why normal Americans, lots of them, vote D.

If one of them loses, I’ll be a happy man. If they both lose, I’ll be ecstatic.

And I'll be right there beside you!

I haven't seen a Patty Murray ad for 20 years, and all of a sudden they start showing up this spring. I knew there was something going on.

I actually thought those "attack ads" were Smiley ads until Patty the Frumpy Ghost's face showed up. Patty makes Tiffany sound pretty good.

Warren is not dumb. Sharp as a tack and that is the problem! I agree about Hirono and Murray.

“Democratic-funded ads to boost a far-right candidate, a massive last-ditch campaign to keep a moderate Republican off the ballot this fall”

the so-called “moderate” GOP candidate who won, Joe O’Dea, is the ultimate RINO, already announcing he intends on being the “Manchin” of the GOP, which REALLY means he intends on being another Romney ...

Between the cheating and the lack of enthusiasm for RINOs, that wouldn’t surprise me. Next up, court-packing!

As for the House, I predict a narrow GOP win for the same reasons. The red “tsunami” will not materialize.

I can guarantee you there is no panic by the liberals in Colorado. They committed crimes out in the open in the 2020 election without any consequences so they have no worries in 2022 or 2024.

The ‘Rat party has really screwed the pooch if they lose Washington. Maybe even Washingtonians are sick of Antifa riots, child grooming, climate scams, high taxes, lockdowns, muzzle mandates, race baiting, and violent crime excused as “social justice.”

My Senate prediction: D+I 52, R 48.

No doubt your prediction will match that of Nate Silver. Both of you will be wrong.

Lots of people had 2018 at D+40 as it was a midterm.

This is the opposite environment.

I’d like to see Patty Murray’s internal polling numbers. The polling vs Smiley must be tight or she is trailing Smiley in likely voter poling if she’s running attack ads vs her likely GOP opponent IN JUNE!!

In Murray’s previous 5 campaigns, she won 4 of the 5 easily (1992, 98, 2004 and 16). The only time she came close to losing was in 2010 when she beat Dino Rossi, 52% to 48%. That’s the only other time I recall her airing lots of attack ads and actually campaign across the state till Election Day.

After the primaries are over a RINO R is still better than a left wing D. If the Dems hold the Senate the nominations for judges and other political appointments will become even more radical.

The fight is always to defeat the RINOs in the primaries and build our strength office by office. Play the long game.

Which means he's electable in Colorado.
