MEtv is running a mini marathon of Gidget(1965).
A much simpler time, right before LBJ ramped up Vietnam and began the disaster called the "Great Society".
Also Sally Field's start and before "The Flying Nun".
the original movie with Sandra Dee is a scream....its so bad that its good...especially the first 15 minutes....

I had forgotten that Marty Milner was the Great Kahuna.
The beach party movies used the Big Kahuna theme too.
‘Back to the Beach’: What’s a Kahuna anyway and is it important to have a big one?

Kahuna
Kahuna is a Hawaiʻian word that refers to an expert in any field. Historically, it has been used to refer to doctors, surgeons and dentists, as well as priests, ministers, and sorcerers.

I was quoting Frankie Avalon in the 1987 movie ‘Back to the Beach’ where middle aged characters fro the Beach Party movie series humorously reprise their roles from 20 years before.

I was 7 in 1965. For some reason the only thing in my head about this show is that for a TV dad her dad seemed old. There was probably some 1965 reason for using a professorial looking old guy.

"Gidget" is short for "girl midget." It is from a 1957 book based on the author's teenage daughter.

He's the guy one would see on different tv shows, and one would say, I've seen him before on tv.

Hawaiian surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku didn’t like the term kahuna because of its association with black magic.
BTW, the Hebrew word kehuna sounds the same and means priesthood. In English we say high priest, but the Hebrew term is actually Kohen Gadol, literally ‘big priest’.

I was quoting Frankie Avalon in the 1987 movie ‘Back to the Beach’ where middle aged characters fro the Beach Party movie series humorously reprise their roles from 20 years before. That was a funny movie. I remember where Gilligan(Bob Denver) was a bartender and said to Frankie, paraphrasing, "stranded for 15 years on a desert island with two beautiful women, and I couldn't do anything".
