Exactly. You will save lives by returning fire and forcing the shooter to take cover or flee.
Then you have to hope the room temperature IQ police don’t come along and kill you for fighting back...a very real possibility in Illinois.

There has been no time in human history when it was OK to relax from a state of “yellow alert.” Pining for some bygone “golden age” when conditions were idyllic won’t accomplish anything; such an age never existed.
To live is to have enemies.
The best any of us can achieve is to find a locale where there is low probability of violence with little warning, and go there.
Oh I know.
I have given that some thought.
But I like to live dangerously.
Who’s got time for all that? Quickly shoot him dead while “resisting arrest” and don’t publish his name or any other details anywhere. With a certain death and no chance at notoriety, these incidents will rapidly decrease.

6. Be inconspicuous. This may be difficult if you’re 6 foot, 7 inches tall, but otherwise, do your best to be “the gray man.” You might not know whom the shooter is targeting, but don’t be the only one wearing a Day-Glo orange shirt.
7. Wear sneakers or other footwear that will allow you the most mobility. Only foolhardy reporters wear high heels to a parade.
8. That said, don’t run if you can help it. Unless everyone else is running, you will attract unwanted attention. Walk fast and purposefully around a corner, to higher ground, or another safe spot.
9. If you’re with friends, stay together. If you can’t, agree on a meeting place beforehand in case you get separated moving through the crowd.
10. Avoid being caught against walls, fences, blockades, or other solid objects. People can get crushed by masses of people fleeing the area.
11. If law enforcement arrives, stay out of their way. Their job is tough enough, and they won’t be able to hear you above the roar of the crowd.
12. If you’re going to be in a crowd for the day, you might need more than a folding chair and a picnic lunch. Consider carrying a small medical kit (say, a tourniquet and a compression bandage) that can help control bleeding. With a little knowledge and training, you might just save a life.
I used to say that it’s unlikely you’ll ever get caught in someone’s violent outburst. These days, however, I’m no longer so sure. Having a solid plan of action in these troubled times just makes common sense.
In this fallen world, we have ALWAYS had to live our lives in Condition Yellow. Yellow means “aware and prepared”. Condition White(ish) is for when you’re sleeping. Even when sleeping, you should be prepared (place secured, weapon(s) and comm(s) readily available).

Find where the police officers are hiding because you know they are not going to be anywhere that they might get hurt or be able to stop the shooter.
A. Don’t be in crowd.
B. If you are, stay behind other people.😎
It’s unconstitutional.
Do not shoot back. Just hide behind your protection detail.
I tell everyone I know that wherever you are, whatever you are doing. you need to have a plan.
From TV interviews it sounds like most of the people there couldn’t distinguish between gun fire and fireworks.

It’s a dirty shame the stool specimen wasn’t aware of Ordinance No. 68-13, Amending Chapter 134 of the Highland Park code of 1968, Section three, Section 134.010. Bans “assault weapons” and “large capacity magazines”.

Be like Deputy Clyde in the movie “Unforgiven”. When asked why he carried 3 pistols when he only had one arm, his answer was, “I just don’t want to get killed for lack of shootin back”.
