“Now We Know Why Jupiter Doesn’t Have Big, Glorious Rings”

so sad, always the Bridesmaid, never the Bride.

You would think Uranus would have gas problems.

"It's long bothered me why Jupiter doesn't
have even more amazing rings..."

Yeah - that's always really bothered me too.
Sometimes I've stayed up all night thinking about it.
But no more. Now we know. I'll finally get a good night's sleep!
Hooray!

I guess now I can say I am forming rings around my house since I have been accumulating large quantity of dust. :D

So do we blame Galileo, because his moons are causing the lack of rings, or Newton for inventing gravity?

There is plenty of evidence gathered in recent decades that Saturn’s rings are relatively young, maybe only a few million years old. They formed when a moon of Saturn wandered too close and broke up, torn apart by tidal forces within what’s called the Roche limit. In a few million more years, an eyeblink in cosmological terms, they will darken and become thinner, much more like Jupiter’s. Jupiter’s moons are much more stable because the large inner moons are all locked in orbital resonances which keep them at a safe distance. Saturn’s moons tend to be smaller and less stable in their orbits.

Uranus is also tipped on its side

Is that for easier examination?
