The NFL suspended Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson for six games on Monday for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

As part of the decision, Watson must now receive all his massages from Browns team therapists, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Robinson's ruling said that while Watson's “pattern of behavior was egregious,” it was “nonviolent sexual conduct,” per Pelissero.

Predictable. This isn't O.J. or Michael Vick with his dogs.

Still it's a slap on the wrist. He'll lose a minimal amount of money-his contract. They'll probably put his return on prime time tv.

Both sides save face in this Kabuki theater.

Tom Brady got four games for deflating balls as a comparison.

In my opinion, every one was consensual, but money mattered more to those women than ruining someone’s career and reputation.

“He’ll lose a minimal amount of money-his contract.”

Part of his $1 million salary. Rest of $270 million untouched.

There were two grand juries seated to look into DW, and neither one came back with an indictment. Since we all know you can indict a ham sandwich, I’m guessing you’re right.

Nobody is comparing this with OJ or Vick. The only comparison can be with Trevor Bauer. He got two years suspension for one woman’s accusation. Watson gets less than a half a year for the accusations of 26 (possibly 66) women.

Don’t ever say this is fair. This is 2022.

“If we’re going to say, as everybody in the system does, that a prosecutor can get a ham sandwich indicted if they want . . . that would mean that when they choose not to take extra consideration given to that,” Hardin said.

That argument is flawed, however. A prosecutor both can get a ham sandwich indicted — and can get a ham sandwich not indicted. Because it’s a one-sided presentation of evidence, the prosecutor has wide latitude to nudge the grand jury in whichever direction the prosecutor wants it to be nudged. The prosecutor, thus, can push toward an indictment. The prosecutor also can push toward no indictment.

Why would the prosecutor want no indictment? Because the prosecutor may not want to have to try to win one or more of those cases under the ridiculously high standard of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Prosecutors don’t like to lose. Prosecutors, in some situations, may not to want to have their hand forced and/or their hands tied by a grand jury that finds “probable cause” in a case where the evidence nevertheless is rife with reasonable doubt, which easily can happen in a case of conflicting versions of events told by two people with no third party present to break the tie.

In Watson’s case, it’s not known (because the process happened in secrecy) whether and to what extent the prosecutor tried aggressively to get one or more indictments.

Wilt the Stilt claimed he did about 10,000 women. But that was before the ambulance chasers and Metwoers figured out how to extort the wealthy athletes.
All of those pigs came to his house voluntarily but people, even Freepers, will still want to kill the guy. Long live the scheisters. Isnt Congress loaded with them.

A better comparison is Ezekiel Elliott because he's actually in the NFL. He got six games for the accusation of one woman. Cops didn't charge Elliott or Watson. But the NFL the serious of the crime outweighs matters of guild or innocence.

Unless it's a high profile QB. Then slaps on the wrist are all they can muster.

The Browns kicked a real "play-through-pain" warrior like Baker Mayfield to the curb for this walking law-suit?

Maybe they could get Johnny Manziel to sober up for a few weeks to take Watson's snaps....

I see what you’re saying, and that’s true. They can push to have an indictment as well as not push.

I have a family member who claims to have been raped by a neighbor. It was sent to a grand jury. They didn’t indict the neighbor either, and I think it was because they couldn’t get pass the he said/she said reasonable doubt factor.

There was no question that a sexual act took place. The consent was the part they couldn’t ascertain. It didn’t seem to be a case that they felt they could win on the prosecution part.

Maybe that’s what happened here, too. Just speculating.

Well, the media and fans treat these game playing guys like immortal gods, sacrificing to them money and time, and giving undying adoration.

What could go wrong?

Re: Not costing him much.

Remember the NFL paychecks are paid by taking their annual salary and dividing g it by the games played. So if you cut six games he is losing about 1/3 of his salary, and I imagine any of his incentives are shot as well.

I am not making a comment on his behavior, but I am pretty sure that kind of a loss in income would put a dent in anyone’s day.

His contract is backloaded. This season he’s basically on league minimum. It was all structured to minimize the financial effect of the suspension everybody knew was coming. Personally I think the arbitrator should have taken that into consideration and dinged him for more than a season just based on that. But 3rd party arbitrators gonna arbitrary I guess.
