IIRC, Thomas Sowell has a book, "Black Rednecks and White Liberals", that pins the genesis of this attitude on the Highland Scots of the 17th century. It was the only culture that Africans, transplanted to the same areas of America as the Highland Scots, had to emulate. The former Scots grew out of it, realizing that it wasn't of much benefit to them in the long run. The former Africans not so much.

So, poor impulse control is being “white” (or at least being 17th century highland Scot). Since it’s being “white”, it seems that blacks would strive to engender more self control within their ranks, even if only for spite!

From the mother’s description, the McDonald employees were treating her badly. It did sound like they put a couple of fresh, warm fries on top. That blows my mind. They’re always cooking fries. Customer complains, get a fresh bag of fries. Yes, the son shouldn’t have brought and used a gun, but given how the mom was treated, it wouldn’t surprise me if the employees mouthed off to him, too.

I have the utmost respect for Thomas Sowell; and while he may have had somewhat of a point regarding the Scots migration to the South influencing the blacks residing there, one has only to look today at the respective cultures from which these two groups sprang to see a parallel in behavior. Violence, indolence, rape, poverty and primitivism is still rife in the unChristianized areas of Africa, which is to say most of the continent.
Nor can we blame the Scots for colonizing Africa; that was the Brits, the Belgians, the Germans, the Portugeuse, the Dutch, the French, the Italians, and let us not forget the Arabs.
Meanwhile, Christianized Africans are among its very best contemporary people and immigrants to this country.
