‘FERRIS BUELLER’ SPINOFF ABOUT VALET ATTENDANTS IN THE WORKS
Ultimate Classic Rock ^ | August 19, 2022 | Bryan Rolli

John Hughes’ classic 1986 teen comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is getting a spinoff about two characters who played a small but pivotal role in the original movie.

According to Deadline, the new film, titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off, will follow the two titular valet employees who, in the 1986 classic, take Cameron Frye’s father’s red Ferrari for a cross-town joyride while Cameron, Ferris and Sloane Peterson gallivant around Chicago on their day off. Sam and Victor run up the odometer on the prized red Ferrari, forcing Cameron to decide how he’s finally going to confront his father, with whom he has a fraught relationship.

Sam and Victor’s Day Off, which is in the works at Paramount Pictures, comes from Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald. Actor and writer Bill Posley (The Neighborhood, Cobra Kai, Bitch Ass) will supply the script.

The (unnamed) valet attendants in the original film were played by Richard Edson and Larry “Flash” Jenkins, the latter of whom died in 2019. There’s no word yet on who will star in Sam and Victor’s Day Off, or whether any of the original film's cast members will return.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off starred Matthew Broderick as the titular Ferris, Alan Ruck as Cameron and Mia Sara as Sloane. It also featured a pre-Dirty Dancing Jennifer Grey as Ferris' sister Jeannie, Jeffrey Jones as principal Ed Rooney, Ben Stein as the infamously monotone economics teacher and Charlie Sheen as a young delinquent who appeared briefly in a police station scene.

The film grossed $70 million against a $5 million budget and has become one of the most beloved comedies of all time. The song “Oh Yeah” by Swiss electronic music duo Yello, which played during scenes involving the convertible Ferrari, became a cultural touchstone in the wake of the film’s succes.

And you know why that was. Voight was in an anti-Veetnam movie. Funny how far he’s come.

Yep!

For real - he’s a true Christian Republican.

“The Deer Hunter” is probably the most devastating movie I’ve ever seen. That’s the one movie that I saw that made me not sleep. That last Russian Roulette scene was brutal; the funeral scene was just sad.

Maybe if John Hughes was alive, he could direct the sequel of Ferris Burlier. It would feature his son doing the same thing his dad did except it would be in a different city (New York City)? But anyway, no one can pull off that magic. So leave it as it is.

We could do a whole thread on most overrated and underrated movies.

I constantly recommend conservative watch the little-known Martin Mull movie “Serial,” written by someone from SF suburbs in the 1970s when wokism was just starting. It is hilarious.

Best Veetnam War movie ever was “Siege of Firebase Gloria,” with R. Lee Ermy.

In my book, THE most overrated movie ever was “Chinatown.”

That would be fun!

I’ve never heard of “Serial”. I’ll see if I can can find it online.

“Siege…”: With Wings Hauser. 80s movie. Haven’t seen that in ages.

“Chinatown”: Incest and water rights. Eh. It’s good but not “WOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!”.

“Serial” has an all-star cast of B-stars: Mull, Tuesday Weld, Peter Bonerz, Tom Smothers, Christopher Lee (in a comedy, a B star, in a horror, A), William Macy.

So many one-liners, many of which I cannot repeat on FR. WHen you see it, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

I know (Chinatown), right? I’ve seen 100 dramas as good as that.

BTW, the first and fourth seasons of Billy Bob Thornton’s series “Goliath” are tremendous. Seasons 2-3 are not, and Season 2 is downright horrible. However, ya kinda have to go through them to understand everything in 4, so it’s worth it.

Ditto “Bosch,” “The Expanse,” “Titans” (DC Comic fan here).

I just watched the trailer - that music, it’s like a 70s porn!

It’s available on YouTube. I’ll watch it.

Did you watch the first season of “Fargo” with Billy Bob Thornton? I thought it was sublime.

I’ll have to find “Goliath”.

I like comics, but haven’t watched too many of the movies.

RE: Chinatown. Yep. Good but not great.
