EXCLUSIVE: Candace Owens, 32, says Tennessee hospital threatened to call CHILD SERVICES and stopped her from leaving until her newborn underwent 'unnecessary' blood test - as she accuses 'hospital mafia' of inflating her insurance bill

Conservative analyst and author Candace Owens claims staff at a Tennessee hospital attempted to hold her and her newborn daughter hostage after she gave birth earlier this summer - telling her she was not allowed to leave until they drew blood from the hours-old, perfectly healthy child.

Speaking exclusively with DailyMail.com, the 32-year-old slammed staff at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, while recounting the '24 hours of torture' she says she suffered after giving birth to her second child Louise on July 13.

The mother-of-two, who launches the new DailyWire+ podcast, Candace, on Monday, said the alleged mistreatment started after she declined antibiotics and contraction-inducing drugs while going into labor. She added that it culminated in staffers threatening to call child services on the right-wing commentator.

Owens - who married British Oxford grad George Farmer in 2019 - further accused staffers of engaging in a concerted effort to empty her wallet, by keeping her for over 48 hours so her stay was not covered by insurance.

When she refused, Owens says that a hospital pediatrician approached her and her husband as they tried to leave, callously telling the couple 'that she watched a baby die in the 47th hour because her parents refused to stay.'

The pair ignored the staffer, Owens says - despite the workers' false assertions that her insurance would likely not cover the visit if she went against medical advice and left.

When Owens responded that she didn't care, a social worker employed by the hospital asked the couple to sign a document that said they were aware that The Department of Children's Services (DCS) could pay them a visit for leaving against doctor's orders, according to Owens.

If she’d said the magic word racist they’d probably have accommodated her on anything she wanted.

It was just this sudden realization that I was carrying life and I would do anything and everything to protect that life.

That should be universal amongst "birthing persons." It is also why the abortion industry is so opposed to ultrasound laws.

FFS, if you don’t want to follow the laws the state sets…move to another state.

The 24 hour lead test has been standard for almost 50 years.

She should educate herself before swuaking like she is getting abused.

This is BS

When my son was born in OR in 1974 women were leaving with their newborns the same day they gave birth so they didnt have to pay for a stay in the hospital ...

I had to stay in a week because of my own physical problems and about 4 women came through my room that week only staying in the other bed a few hours ...

Mom and baby were OK so they both left ...

The child services folk never showed ...

The medical community is a cult

I'm a doc, and if it is a cult I haven't been invited. IMHO there are a**ho**s in every walk of life, in every socioeconomic group, and at any level of education. Clearly there are plenty in medicine, but just as many in law, and many more in politics and the talking head industry. That's why, to me, the most important aspect of traditional America is the protection of each individual's right to self-determine and not be forced into anything by any collection of a**h**s.

I don't know the whole story, but Candace Owens better know her stuff before blaming hospital personnel. . If she tested positive for Group B Strep, and her baby contracted it because of no antibiotics given, then her baby could suffer sepsis, meningitis etc. The second item is a PKU test. If the baby showed positive for that, and intervention was not done, then the result would be neurological brain damage. So yes, if mom refuses a PKU then CPS should be involved because of ramifications for the baby.
If you don't want medical treatment, and don't want to be awakened for assessments, then deliver your child at home.

She probably had Group B Strep. Just putting her baby at 20x risk of getting sick because she’s an attention-seeking, confrontational idiot.

If she had a positive group b strep culture prior to delivery (the most common indication for antibiotics during labor) and refused antibiotics she carelessly and callously endangered her infants life to prove whatever she was trying to prove. Without antibiotics those infants need be be monitored closely for 48 hours. With strep sepsis they crash and die within hours. I get it that people here hate doctors but she was wrong here and bet her child’s life on it.

I gave birth at 2am and went home at 7 pm….of course that was in crazy radical California

Not sure I buy all of this. Yes she would have had her sleep disturbed because they take your vitals periodically. But I’ve never heard of ant labor and deliver department rolling a scale into a room to weigh a baby

Congratulations Ms Owens. (And Mr Kirk?)

However, I wonder why she didn’t anticipate something like that - the “pandemic” is supposed to be over yes? no? - and arrange to give birth at a facility where there wouldn’t be a problem. Or you can hire a midwife and give birth at home.

You get nine months when trying to find just the right spot to deliver your precious bundle of joy. Use them well!
