And yet they won’t let you call a taxi cab either. It has to be someone you know, or some appoved form of medical transport. You can’t just call Uber and have them take you home. They won’t release you.
What is that about?
Many people are released from same day surgery while they are still effected by local anesthesia. Having a person stay with you for a few hours after you get home might keep you from walking on a recently operated on foot, for example. An Uber driver will just drop you off.
As explained to me, the hospital won’t let us go home in taxis, even after anesthesia wears off, because the stranger who picks us up could take advantage of us, if we are still a little drowsy. Yes, it’s silly, but that’s their reasoning. I don’t have a ride nearby, either. I thought about tricking the hospital (”My ride will be here to pick me up later...”) but the hospital won’t confirm an appointment without knowing who will pick me up - either a ride from someone I know or medical transport.
