We were a small manufacturing company so having one scratch built was out of the question so the guys in IT jury rigged up one that was based on a point of sale system. And every now and then if you hit the right combination of keys it would pop up a drinks menu.

Working in IT, I've heard and/or lived through pretty much every Y2K experience and story, true and apocryphal. But yours is a new one to me, and so I thank you -- you've made my evening.

The first time it happened we were rather confused.

After that it became a running joke that the computer knew when we were stressed and would offer us a selection of mixed drinks.

IT managed to get the number of times it happened down but it never went away entirely.
