Pets International, a US-based magazine covering the pet industry around the globe reported in 2017 that Egypt was among the world's ten fastest growing markets.
Last year, the Ireland-based Research and Markets, another leading global market survey issued a report saying that the pet food industry in Egypt was worth $284.8 million in 2020 and was bound to grow as more well-off Egyptians are owning pets.
"There is usually a balance in terms of the number of customers with dogs and those with cats. But lately, more dog owners come to us and this is normal because dogs usually need more care and cleaning. However, cats are clean by nature," says Shady Mohamed a salesman at Ziggy Pupps.
On a typical Saturday, the store swarms with customers who seek grooming and cleaning services for their dogs of various western breeds.
In mainstream Islam, dogs are seen as unclean animals that should not be owned for companionship.
Muslims are only allowed to own dogs for one of two specific purposes which are guarding or hunting.
However, some well-respected Egyptian religious scholars have recently come forward with fatwas (ruling on Islamic laws) challenging that understanding and arguing that dogs were not unclean and owning them would not undermine a Muslim's piety.
According to the Egyptian Kennel Association, the number of registered dog owners had jumped from 2000 in 2016 to over 860,000 in 2019.
For Mostafa Kamel al-Sayyid, a political science professor with Cairo University, pet ownership is one of many new consumption patterns adopted by newly affluent Egyptians.

After a thousand years of intermarriage, most Egyptian muslims have only 5 to 20% Arab blood. That doesn’t include the Bedouins in the Sinai who are pure arabs mostly.
Copts have less Arab blood.

Generally disagree with that. While cats often bathe themselves, one can tell if there are cats in residence immediately upon walking thru the front door of someone’s home. Litter box smells, other ‘accidents’, cat food, etc. I once had to throw away an expensive suitcase because a cat peed in it. Scrubbing, airing outside, nothing, absolutely nothing would get rid of the odor in that luggage.
Most muslim names come from the koran. (There are no capital letters in the arabic alphabet).
Okay, I'll say it. I consider Islam more unclean than dogs. Do you SEE how they live?

I’m inclined to Tom Holland’s analysis that a character called Mohammad never existed.
Robert Spencer agrees with that
1. Mohammad is a title meaning the praiseworthy one. Nobody before the 8th century had that name.
2. The words Muhammad is used only 5 times in the Quran and only as a title
3. The Arabs conquered highly literate Persian Sassanid and Roman areas but there is no mention of a Muhammad in the first 100 years of the arab empire
4. They don’t even mention it themselves, not in their texts or inscriptions.
I think Muhammad was an amalgamation of many people like Robin hood

But your theory fails a little with the schism between Sunni and Shia. Mohammad's cousin and son-in-law, Ali caused the Shia to split from the Sunni Moslems. That sort of implies that there was a Mohammad. How do Holland and Spencer explain that?
I lived in Cairo for a few years....back in the 80s. Don’t recall ever seeing a dog. But cats every...even all over the airport.
Correct. “Mohammed” was invented to attract 9th Century businessmen to Saudi Arabia. The koran is a lousy cut-and-paste job from the Bible and islam became a religion made by men for men. Children and Women need not apply. And just as one American judge slammed Alex Jones for saying the Sandy Hook was a hoax, so, too, some people will slam others for saying that mohammed was a hoax or even drawing a cartoon. Increasing dog ownership in Cairo is good news.
As to Islam overcame the turks, its complicated.
The original Turkic people in what is now Mongolia, were shamanism. Their kids were sold as slaves to the Abbassid caliphate and took back the religion. Then, in the 11th century the turkics took over Islam.
The major islamic powers: Ottoman, Safavid Iran and Moghul India all were Turkic dynasties. Though funnily enough, they used Farsi ie Persian as their court language
The explanation is that it was a standard dynastic war resulting in the Ummayyad caliphs
