RE: making money getting stoned in public
Wasn’t that true of Canned Heat, the Grateful Dead and other rock stars?
The gifted guitarist Henry Vestine of Canned Heat was born upper middle class and didn’t have to have a job. His gift of guitar artistry was eventually ruined by his heavy LSD use along with other drugs. At first fans in the audience thought it was funny and “cool” that he would fall over a cord onstage, then fall off a stool another night and finally couldn’t remember what song the group was playing. Incredibly he missed Woodstock when they couldn’t get him motivated to leave his bed. Harvey Mandell had been in the audience often at their concerts and was convinced to replace Vestine at the historic Woodstock festival. Drugs ruined Vestine’s career. A terrible waste.
Among my favorite solos of lead guitarists is this one
“When Things Go Wrong. It Hurts Me, Too.”

Several better sound quality versions exist.
Best is probably the 2 CD If You Can’t Stand the Heat, Get out of the Kitchen: Live in Concert (2008).

Heck yeah. I want to see the one where he goes to court stoned.
