An 8-year-old boy from Carlsbad, California is in a medically-induced coma after sustaining a traumatic brain injury in a trampoline accident.

Leeland Havensek was...jumping on the family trampoline with his little sister when the two collided.

“We gave him ice, he laid down for a bit. We monitored him every 10 to 15 minutes for (a) possible concussion,” said Maggie Havensek, Leeland’s mom.

Later, Wednesday night as his mother was making lunches for the next day, Maggie said she heard a loud noise that sounded like a snore.

“I ran into the room and my son was seizing and not responsive,”

A CT scan showed no skull fracture and no concussion, but it did reveal serious bleeding on the brain, swelling and a large blood clot that caused a stroke.

“He is not going to be able to walk. Not when he comes out, we don’t know, but his whole left side will be compromised,”

Time to trade the family sized trampoline in for the individual sized one.

Try getting a trampoline added to your homeowners insurance.

They probably do have such a policy, but at astronomicly high rates.

What an awful tragedy for both the boy, his sister and parents. I was talking to somebody recently who had a trampoline accident. The other person came down on his leg, breaking it.

But they are fun.

Mrs L is in the homeowners insurance biz. They decline to insure trampolines entirely.

I was wondering if homeowner policies included trampolines.

I think they have to be listed.

Back yard trampolines and firecrackers.

Two things children should avoid.

We have one. We disclosed it. You have to to be covered. We pay more. It also is at ground level as we had ground excavated below it. And our back yard is privacy fenced. It’s a matter of what you want to pay for. Depending on State location other areas sound like companies may choose to decline coverage.

On the instructions that come with those back yard trampolines they prominently state: NO MORE THAN ONE PERSON ON THE TRAMPOLINE.
Almost everyone ignores it.

I think back years ago when some friends we knew had a trampoline next to their inground pool.

Lots of funny, fun, fun bouncing and jumping on the trampoline and for a finale....

Do a bounce over a few feet into the pool.

Not sure if anyone ever missed the trampoline or the pool and instead landed on the cement sidewalk.

Hope not.

Course that was back in the stone age days when we kids rode bikes without helmets (gasp), no one wore seatbelts and drinking a beer (or two) as you drove home from work was routine.

(How are we still alive?)

Was into gymnastics when I was kid.

My freshman year in high school did a flip off a trampoline and hit my head on the way down. About 20 minutes later I lost my central vision. I was taken to the nurse’s office and start throwing up literally across the room (projectile vomiting). They sent me home.

8 years later in med school, I learned my symptoms were caused by my swollen brain pushing out of the hole in the base of my skull!

Our Boss upstairs gave me major break. Trying to pay it forward ever since.

“Try getting a trampoline added to your homeowners insurance.”

Probably not worth insuring, since not very expensive.

Grace and mercy on display, and you were the only witness. I honestly don’t know why the school employee didn’t know that was some serious symptoms you had.

Projectile vomiting is pretty impressive. Went about 9-10 feet.(but don’t care to do it again.)

God gave me a second chance that day.

Today at work I met a wonderful women, a millennial black who works for pro-life advocacy group in NoVa.

Calling them tomorrow!!!!

I presume they are asking about liability and injury insurance.
