The removal of the firearm enhancement on the second charge removes the possibility of a five-year prison sentence.

It has been revealed that the charges against Alec Baldwin and Rust set armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed for the fatal shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins were downgraded, dropping the potential five-year prison sentence for the pair.

The Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office formally downgraded the second of the two charges, which included a firearm enhancement, issued to Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed on Friday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Baldwin is a murderer. I sincerely doubt his claim the gun fired on its own and that he didn't touch the trigger.

Even Stevie Wonder could see this coming.

The firearm enhancement law was made law AFTER Baldwin shot her.

It’s unconstitutional to charge someone with a law written after the fact.

That said, they should be charging him for manslaughter.

Of course they were - he is about as far Left as you can get - and he is a mega-outspoken anti-gun, anti-2A tool.

A good lawyer will plead it down to negligent homicide.

No jail. No prison. What punishment is left? Money? There isn’t enough in my opinion.

The prosecutor wants to wrap this up with some kind of conviction, instead of fighting it out for the next ten years.

I agree

Baldwin is a favorite of Leftist elites in this country. It was a forgone conclusion that his charges would be reduced to a level that he would get no jail time

If the downgrade the charges against Baldwin they must lower them against the armorer.

I think the armorer deserves a break, Baldwin not so much.

Sounds like a one-sided plea bargain. I wonder if future location contracts entered into the thought process.

Thanks, if that’s the case that enhancement should never have been added in the first place.

Alec Baldwin (actor/producer) and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed (armorer) failed Hulyna Hutchins (cinematographer) and Joel Souza (director) three times that tragic day: The armorer hired to ensure weapons safety failed them once. The producer/actor who okayed a functioning firearm—and live ammunition for it—to be used and didn’t practice weapons safety failed them twice.

That should warrant severe punishment, IMHO. It looks to me like they won’t get anything close to that.

I agree with everything you said but there are extenuating circumstances for the armorer.

She was hired because the movie’s budget did not allow for a more experienced armorer.

She was more or less hired because of her youth.

She tired numerous times to get Baldwin to come to safety training. He ignored her.

He was the director with the power to fire her.

He was an actor/producer ignoring the armorer’s orders to take safety training.

She could quit and never get another job as armorer or allow Baldwin to do as he liked.

He should go down for man slaughter. She she should get I don’t know but something less.

Baldwin the actor is innocent. Movies are make-believe, and whether or not he pulled the trigger is irrelevant.

Baldwin the producer is guilty. He managed an unsafe production which neglected safety. I think that a conviction for criminally negligent homicide is justified.

So, you’re saying Cher wouldn’t serve time either, if she killed someone?

Just asking.

Yes, it seems that criminally negligent homicide in New Mexico is called involuntary manslaughter.

Correct, involuntary manslaughter is the lowest form of criminal homicide in NM.
