Do you remember when Chicago City Council voted to KEEP WALMART OUT of the City Limits a few years back?
They were trying to protect their own ‘turf’ of small stores they could intimidate for campaign contributions.
Walmart then opened up store in the suburbs, Chicago losing out on all those jobs, sales and property taxes.................
Yep. Also wonder if unions are a factor.
Walmart does best in rural areas, that’s how they grew by pushing out local competitors. Urban areas have other choices just down the road. Target, Meier, etc don’t serve smaller markets, and others who did sCosco,uch as K-Mart and Shopko are gone.
