Anyone have suggestions for the best streaming service?
Me

Posted on 02/26/2023 8:02:10 AM PST by V_TWIN

Cut the cord and kicked directv to the curb last year and did my research for a streaming service.

After comparing plans, prices and content I settled on fubotv.

While I was happy for a while fubo just forced a regional sports network (RSN) package on my plan that I can't opt out of and used it as an excuse to jack up my monthly fee by $30......that's the end of fubotv as soon as the next billing cycle is up.

I'm leaning towards youtube tv.....anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

If you want something akin to cable in terms of channels I’d suggest either YouTube TV or DTV stream. I’ve had both and liked both. Right now I’ve got DTV stream. You can also purchase a Roku box and set up your own service by buying the stream services from the different channels like Paramount, Disney, Peacock and Discovery+.

Have had two Prime subscriptions for several years...
Have had two Paramount subscriptions for several years...
Very Satisfied with both...

Had Netflix, once upon a time for a long time, but dumped it and it’s 90% leftist crap, three years ago...

Do watch lots of old, old (1920s, 1930s, 1940s) movies on YouTube...
As an 89 year old, I appreciated good acting...

There is too much “fun crap” to distract and absorb our time being pushed out on many platforms, just the way China likes it.

I watch Bannon’s War Room, Tucker Carlson, and listen to news/talk radio while I’m working. I also read FR.

I don’t crave viewing the latest TV series, newest movies, old songs, cat videos, sports scores, TT challenges, online gaming, or gambling apps.

Most of us are helping China. China says ‘Thank You.’ Period.”

Yes. (Although I have to admit I’m a sucker for cute or heartwarming cat/pup videos. Don’t hate me.)

Does YT TV have ads/commercials?

We even see ads on our Roku streaming channels.

So sick of the BigPharma ads.

Yes - I love the “Pride & Prejudice” movie, “John Wick” movies, and scrolling through the latest political memes. We all have our “thing”!

#69 OLED has image burn in problem where say the logos/graphics are permanently burned in.
QLED does not have that issue.

4k is good if you have content that is 4k. Most tv’s are capable of 4k and are cheap to buy. If you have a blu-ray player the detail is amazing. I watched John Wayne in ‘The Searchers’ blu-ray and I could see the stitching in his shirt.

Much of broadcast tv is still mostly 720, maybe some 1080. They share the bandwidth with other channels. Example: 7.1, 7.2, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3 etc.
Sports tend to use higher resolution. I saw F1 racing on Youtube and it looked unreal, like a video game. It was so clear.

You want a tv that has several hdmi and usb ports. One for say a Roku box and usb ports for a wireless keyboard and mouse. It is easiler to sin in using a computer at Roku or Youtube or Sling but if needed you can do so thru the tv.

“I just switched to YoutubeTV and really like it”

Ditto for us last July or thereabouts. As long as you have strong / dependable WIFI which we do for the most part. Frontier even tossed in a free Eero 6 Pro Mesh Router with my WIFI service. We also subscribe to Paramount Plus and Discovery Plus for another $10 or so a month.

Skysteam box with kodi 19.3 and a real-debrid account(6 months =$17)

We have been cable free for years and watch everything and anything for free. Movies in theaters, Netflix, all the pay services no account needed.

We have saved thousands over the years. RD $17 for 6 months can’t beat it.

Facebook group: beststreambox
look it up.

Forgot to add we killed the land line as well. Kept our old 35 year Telo number and ported it over to Ooma. Ooma equipment about $80 running off the Router. Our Cordless phones plug into the Ooma device and he have phones in three rooms. We went with just the base Ooma service which is free just paying about $6 a month in taxes.

Late to the party, everything is proprietary now. There is no single solution except something that sort of rhymes with private key.

I’d like to cut the cable but the wife won’t let me until I can find a way to get some recordings off our Uverse DVR, and I’m not sure that’s possible. I’ve read that you can play the recording and use video capture to save to a PC but I’m just not that smart.

I broke down about a year ago and got one. I was expecting to pay more for it. The prices are surprisingly reasonable.
