There were a lot of civilizations, above ground and submerged, which got wiped out by hundreds, if not thousands, of feet of glacial ice sheets, and would be hard to find using this method.

I’m thinking ground-penetrating radar might help too.

Also localized blast produced seismology or seismic profiling.
