Austria to allocate another 18 million euros to help Ukrainians

The Austrian government decided to allocate another EUR €18 million euros to help Ukrainians affected by the Russian invasion.
SOURCE: This was announced by Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler on Tuesday, 20 June, reports European Pravda, citing the Austrian news agency APA.
DETAILS: €18 million will be allocated from the foreign disaster fund of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the accounts of organisations working with affected Ukrainian citizens.
According to the Austrian Foreign Ministry, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Committee of the Red Cross will receive EUR €6 million each.
Another €4 million will go to the UN Children’s Fund and €2 million by the UN Population Fund.
Thanks to these funds, people in Ukraine and Moldova, which hosted a large number of displaced persons from Ukraine, should receive support.
In this way, Austria’s bilateral financial support to Ukraine will exceed €150 million.
Schallenberg will also attend a conference on Ukraine’s recovery in London on Wednesday 21 June.
In May, following a fierce debate, the Austrian government announced funding for mine clearance equipment in Ukraine, totalling €2 million.
The Ukrainian side has previously asked Austria to help with mine clearance efforts. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this, among other things, during his address to members of the lower chamber of the Austrian parliament.

Ukrainian border guards have released a video of some strikes on Russian invaders’ positions on the Bakhmut front.

DETAILS: The State Border Service of Ukraine reports that during a reconnaissance flight, the border guards’ aerial reconnaissance team found some Russian infantry in their positions. Several of the troops in the aggressor’s rifle unit were already dead, and the position was held by only two invaders.

Pentagon overestimated value of assistance to Ukraine since February 2022 by more than US$6 billion

A Pentagon audit of US military assistance to Ukraine has revealed a US$6.2 billion discrepancy between the estimated and actual cost of the equipment provided.
SOURCE: European Pravda, citing an announcement by Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh at a briefing on Tuesday.
Singh said the accounting error arose because Pentagon services used the replacement cost of equipment rather than the net book value, “thereby overestimating the value of the equipment drawn down from US stocks and provided to Ukraine.”
“We have confirmed that for FY23 [which ended on 30 September - ed.], the final calculation is $3.6 billion, and for FY22 it is $2.6 billion, for a combined total of $6.2 billion,” she added.
The Pentagon spokeswoman stressed that the identified discrepancy in no way limits the size of any of the aid packages allocated to Ukraine from US Army stocks (PDAs) or funding approved by Congress for the same purpose.
Singh also said that after the errors were identified, the Pentagon received new instructions on valuing equipment provided to Ukraine, “to ensure that we use the most accurate accounting methods”.
The reassessment of military aid to Ukraine could mean that the United States has more extra funds than previously thought, which means it may not be necessary for the White House and Congress to agree on another financial assistance package for Ukraine just yet.
Earlier, some officials in the US presidential administration, lawmakers and congressional staff had expressed concern that funds to support Ukraine could run out by midsummer.
However, US President Joe Biden believes that America will continue to support Ukraine with financial assistance despite potential debates in Congress.
