In one of the New Age self-help lectures by the late Dr.Wayne W. Dyer he told of a mother who said all mothers want to shelter their kids from all hurts but it can’t happen.
Her little boy was having trouble making friends in school. When it was time for a class Valentine’s Day party he sat down with her and made out a list of all the kids he remembered in the classroom so he could make out a card. Went to a lot of trouble to remember each one.
On the day of the party on the way home his mother saw him getting closer on the sidewalk until she could see he was holding one card.
“So the teacher’s one mandatory minimum card for each student was all he got? No one else was thoughtful enough to give him one?” She wouldn’t let her son see her crying so looked cheerful and said “So were the cookies good at the party?”
The little boy was smiling and proudly said “It was so good. I did it. I remembered every single one and gave them each a card. I’m so happy.”
