While my initial and subsequent donations were valid and intentional, getting on everyone's spam list--both email and snail mail was not intended. The only positive side is that the repeated snail mail is now costing them more than the original donations. And I am mostly a small dollar donator, only occasionally donate over $250 in any individual donation. Feel for those that have given more, though maybe they get more respectful follow-on contact.

I sometimes wonder if failed and past candidates are making money off of selling my email and snail mail addresses to campaigns around the US.

I like to send notes back in place of a donation.

You should try registering as an independent.

You get spam from every party’s hopeful!

Over the years, we’ve seen many comments like yours here on FR.

I’ve paid attention to them, and as a result I NEVER donate to any political cause.

Especially Win Red. Just a few hours ago, some poor FReeper posted about how Win Red is ripping off his father.

Drag the emails over to the Spam folder and teach your email client what’s spam

I have found out that clicking on the “unsubscribe” link is a mistake and can get you more spam, because some of the “unsubscribe” links are illegitimate. A better option, if your email provider has this option, is to mark it as spam. If it is a legitimate site, rather than a telemarketer of dubious integrity, your email provider will then ask if you want to unsubscribe. You can then do so. If the source is not legitimate, your email provider will simply move it and another future emails from that source to your spam folder. Clicking the “unsubscribe” link on an illegitimate email will only get you more illegitimate emails.

I have a dump email that I give out for all those kind of transactions. It has ballooned over the years so that I am getting about 80 a day and that doesn’t include all the ones Yahoo filters out for me automatically because they are conservative by nature. I do that so every once in a while I mass delete and don’t have to sorry about losing anything.

Yahoo never seems to filter any democrat or liberal mail that I have seen, just conservative ones.

You occasionally give $250 to these money sponges, and you wonder why you get Spam?

Poster above mentioned WIN RED. They are relentless. I dropped out of RNC 20 years ago and still get snail mail. Also, if you use a credit card to donate all will get your phone # as well as email addy. And political calls are allowed even if on No Call List. Go figure.LOL!

What is even worse is when they get your cell phone number. The political barrage never stops and there is not a thing you can do about it. The numbers always change so it does no good to block them.

My current nemesis is Nicky Haley. A day doesn’t go by that something from her group shows up asking for money. Very annoying and frustrating.

It does my little black heart good to be able to hit the “Report Junk and Delete” button.

Rule #1: Before making a donation, check inside hitlary’s lockbox and see if there are matching testicles there...

My peeve is the mail I get from some charitable organizations such “Doctor’s Without Borders” or veteran groups who send packages with greeting cards, small flags, names on postal return stickers, gloves, etc. They are wasting someone’s donation dollars on junk in an attempt to get more donations. I’ve put “refused, return to sender” on a couple and dropped in the mailbox but I expect the PO just junks it. I saw a report recently on the percentage of donations that actually go to the designated charity. One top charity was “Tunnel to Towers” with an A+ rating.

A list of America’s top charities (by percentage of money spent on programs relative to overhead) can be found at the below link. Note that many that advertise on TV are not found on this list (St. Jude and Shriner’s for example).
