Some recipes I have seen add tomatoes or tomato paste and some don’t.
Also some add some sour cream at the end of cooking and some don’t.
I doubt that I could have kept my two sons out of anything I cooked for 3 days.
They enjoyed it anyway, guess we didn’t know any better.

We use tomato sauce, some people use just beef broth, and some use canned tomatoes; NEVER tomato paste. I think that it might depend on just WHERE, in the old Austro-Hungarian Empire, in Hungary, one came/comes from.

The way around NOT serving it on the first day, is to make it when the children are in school or late at night, when they are asleep in bed.

Truth to tell, we have been known to eat it on the second day, *gasp*, but it's always better on the third day, just heated up and not cooked for hour after hour.

Then there is "THE SOUP" ( it must have a name, but my family, for 6 generations in America, has always just called it that ), which only takes two TWO days to cook before you eat it. LOL
