I went thru the same recently - I was selected for the jury, but the defense team thru me off. He didn’t like my answer to where I got my education - I said I went to the School of Hard Knocks …

I applaud your answer

Not having that feeling. I sympathize, but I look at it as a way I may be able to help one of our own out. I'm the definition of "jury nullification."

However, the last three times I got tapped, two were settled out of court and the last time I was looking like I was a pick until they asked me where I got my news from. I said "Free Republic." About two minutes later I was excused. Wonder if I'm ever picked again...

You’re always free to vote on issues of the law, and the abuse of the law, even if the judge tells you you may not.

The judge’s answer does not correspond to your statement. He’s referring to textbook, not real life.
Today’s world is corrupt.
I’m sad to say, I’ve never been on jury duty. I vaguely recall being called but was in the excess pile.

The reason you have a jury is so that the law itself as well as the facts can be weighed. Most judges nowadays don't want juries nullifying the law so they trim out anybody they suspect would do so.

Because of that , if you don't want to be on a jury , make it clear to the judge you will say not guilty if you believe the law is unjust.

No.

As a juror you have a power unparalleled to prevent wrongs from being done and to defend the innocent. You will never in your life hold more power then you do when sitting on a jury.

And you wimped.

Frankly you are part of what is wrong with the system.

I ended up serving in a jury earlier this year.
Before selection, we were all in a big room. The prosecutor asked if anyone in the room had problems with convicting someone foe drug possession. A guy said loudly that he would unless everyone is treated equally. The prosecutor asked what he was referring to, and he said, “Hunter Biden”. Everyone in the room laughed loudly, except the prosecutor.

Both times I served on a jury were positive experiences. My fellow jurors seemed reasonably intelligent and considerate of the process.

There were two exceptions: an a-hole who got out by exaggerating his bootlicking devotion to the prosecutors claiming that he was certain they wouldn't waste our time bringing innocent people to trial. The other time was another idiot who wanted us to quickly reach a verdict cuz he knew the guy was guilty and we were all a bunch of idiots for wasting his time going through the evidence.

Both of these guys were self-serving "conservatives" who are probably still telling their friends how lame jury service is while not realizing that whatever faults the jury system has are only being accentuated by their failure to serve appropriately.

The few left with integrity in the judicial system probably wont let you out the door because its red pill people like yourself who need to be on jury duty.

Jury duty is your opportunity to prevent injustice.

Don’t shirk it.

Juries should be filled with FReepers.

With jury nullification, the ultimate power resides in the jury.

I would not shirk jury duty. I was picked once but the parties settled. It is our duty and we should do a good job no matter which POS party runs the country. I’m sure most of you would want a freeper on your jury if you had to face trial.

Respectfully, my FRiend, I do not agree.

I've been selected for jury duty many times, and I've served on several juries. I believe that I've both added value to the proceedings and learned from each one of them.

I've never asked to be released, even though I had a busy professional career, and it was a burden for me to be away from work.

It's one thing for lawyers and politicians to erode the judicial process, it's another thing if jurors give up.

Not me.

I was almost on a jury once. It was for a death penalty case. I wrote in response to one of the questions that psychiatrists should wear the same uniform as medieval wizards because their 'science' was nearly as accurate.

Needless to say I was eventually dismissed.

We’ve always had corrupt times and people. Perhaps now people are finally paying attention.

I gladly have done jury duty, and I see it as our civic duty.

You make it what it becomes. It does not matter what a circus it may have been, for others.

You are a poor example of a good citizen. You are why good people go to jail, and bad people get let off.

It’s because you didn’t want to represent.
