Nothing new. Regs always prohibited troops from attending political events. Of course.

I thought that wearing the uniform was a No-No but just showing up as a citizen was fine. I don’t know if these new expectations are simply “don’t show up at all” but if they are really saying that, it seems pretty awful.

No, they have not. They prohibit being in uniform or representing the military at such events.

Troops can attend political events as long as the views are not “extremist” and cannot attend in uniform.

Regs, at least when I was on active duty did prohibit attending political event IN UNIFORM, but NOT attending them in civilian clothes. However under the Obama-Biden regime, this may have changed. Or probably has changed as demonstrated by this announcement.

You state that as fact and it is an outright lie.
Only prohibited when in uniform. What, did you forget that part? Of course, eh.

No it doesn’t. What it prohibits is attending in uniform. Big difference.

That is not true. Military regulations preclude wearing the uniform at a political rally but individuals have the right to Free Speech.

In uniform. They can show up and support a politician on their own time if they want.
And bet your ass if it was a Bidung rally, there would be no message.

I don’t believe that. They just can’t wear a uniform.

I don’t believe that is true. I could look it up but won’t. I think the only regulation is you can’t attend a political event in uniform or in an official capacity.

No.

The rule was you could not attend in uniform.

Just attending was fine.

Of course you are wrong or lying. Troops may not participate in political or other activities while in uniform or otherwise identifying as U.S. military. In civilian clothing, off military installations, and not identifying as a member of the U.S. Military, the service member is not restricted from participating in legal political activities.
