Downsizing is a major effort for all the seniors I know. It's especially hard for those with just-in-case mania -- they can't stand to throw anyone away: "My family once gave away a long-unused parakeet cage, and the next day we rescued a parakeet from the curb of our house."
Let's face it, some seniors measure their worth in the amount of stuff they have.
Told my wife if we move there is going to be an “accidental “ fire
Way too much stuff lol
When we sold our house we had garage sales, then craigslist, then come pick it up and finally putting it out on the street for pickup. Packed up to move for a short two year period until full retirement, more garage sales, more giveaways.
Finally moved to the house and still have too much stuff but down to only a few boxes of memories from travels, letters and photos and the kids events. It did feel good to be relieved of all the other stuff.

We downsized in 2016. Hated it. “Upsized” this July. But we have no spare bedrooms. Each cat likes having its own room. 😉
Oh, I know what you’re saying. I look in the two spare bedroom/store rooms and wonder how it all happened.
Then I close the door and go away.
Part of that worth is measured by the difference in what WE PAID FOR IT a long time ago & WHAT it would cost to replace today.
ONLY people in my will are getting my stuff-—and NONE of my furniture is IKEA. ALL REAL WOOD.
