This week, Ron E Hassner – a professor of political science at the University of California, Berkeley – carried out a survey of students from across the US, to gauge the depth of their knowledge. First the students were asked whether they endorsed the controversial pro-Palestine chant, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” Those who said they did endorse it were then asked to name the river and the sea in question.
Remarkably, less than half of them could do so.
The correct answers are the Jordan and the Mediterranean. Yet 53 per cent of these crusaders for Palestinian rights didn’t know this. Some thought the river was the Nile. And even more incredibly, some thought the sea was the Caribbean.
A fascinating thought. Because, if Palestine stretches from the Nile to the Caribbean, that means it encompasses most of Africa, and indeed the West Indies. Which means that the students are calling for all non-Palestinian inhabitants of Africa and the West Indies to leave, so that the Palestinian people can at last reclaim their rightful territory.
Logically, in fact, the Atlantic ocean must be Palestinian, too. In which case, all the fish in it are settler colonialists. They, therefore, must also leave, so that the Palestinian people may swim peacefully once again in their rightful waters.
The most important point, though, is that if Palestine stretches from the Nile to the Caribbean, its territory does not include Israel. Which means the Israelis can keep it.

Liberals do not understand the consequences of their positions, no matter how bad the consequences are. 250 million dead in the 20th century and liberals didn’t learn the dangers of big government.
These ‘students’ are hive-minded know-nothings. I fear for our future. Who is paying for all of these demonstrations?
Last night, in burst of irony, a male personality on Faux Snooze thought it was the Red Sea. He named it while calling the students geography-challenged.
These are Berkeley students - arguably the best public university in the state if not the country. They don’t know geography which may be forgiven in some cases since there is a lot of geography to learn- but if they are advocates for a cause they should at least know the basic premise.
It’s really more of a tell that kids are being socialized and indoctrinated into supporting causes and political movements without actually learning the subject matter - if they are learning much at all. I wonder what it really takes to get into Berkeley. The SAT doesn’t test critical thinking skills.
They live in an information bubble. It’s what they know. Like a religious cult.
LOLOL...Michael Deacon hits it out of the park with this short piece!
From the river to the sea
Is ra el is meant to be.
I believe “from the river to the sea” was in the Likud 1977 election manifesto, as well as being a pro-Palestinian slogan.
This war is 75 years old and it isn’t going to end until someone wins and someone loses.
The result will be sovereignty from the river to the sea, for Israel or for Hamas.
