I did the math on that guy’s stats of an average rent of $108 and average income of $9,000 in 1970. You could pay your rent in just 3 days of work. Simple math, no taxes deducted.
It matters little how much burger flippers get paid in some states. The rent is still too high in the cities of America.
I got a dollar (in 1964 to 1968). Then I got into that really high pay in 68 when I got my first Uncle Sam pay. $26 advance pay. A twenty, a five and a one. Then they marched us over to the barber shop where I had to give that bastard who cut off all my hair the one dollar bill. Monthly pay for E-1 less than 4 months was $95.70.
There’s a new Panda Express opening in my little N. GA city. They’re advertising for employees now starting at $19/hr.
