Georgia United Credit Union recently updated their User Agreement — you know, that wall of text that your financial institution flashes at you from time to time and which few people bother to read. The catch: If you rely on Georgia United Credit Union for your purchasing tool, like, say, a debit card, you may no longer use that to purchase firearms, ammunition, firearms parts, or accessories, along with a host of other items.

As anyone actually tried it?

Does the card fail to provide the transaction, or are they just telling you this but you can just ignore it?

We are with Georgia’s Own Credit Union and so far no problems but if that starts up we’re gone.

This sounds like it would be illegal. They should be shut down as a financial institution.

Just think. That would include insulin, needles, and glucose monitoring equipment. You have to ask yourself “Why?”.

The agreement gives them total discretion to approve or not approve such transactions.

They may approve one, but not the next. They may approve based on other status. It gives them complete discretion (power) over what you are allowed to purchase in several categories.

The merchant agreement prevents this type of censorship.

It will only take one good lawsuit to stop this crap.

Every item sold in stores today has a transaction type number. If you have an online bank account it will say what category the item you purchased is.

Could be a case of them practicing “an illegal restraint of trade”.

Any lawyers here want to comment?
